Hey all,

Headed out for 18 holes later on and suddenly wondered if there are many golfers on OcUK?

If so...

How long have you been playing?
What do you play off and how do you usually play?
What sort of courses do you play?
Anything exciting in the golf bag?
Any good golfing achievements?

For me...

How long have you been playing and how often do you play?

I've been playing around 11-12 years. Sadly only about 6 rounds a year at the minute.

What do you play off and how do you usually play?

Realistically about 16-18. I can usually comfortably go round in par/bogey but invariably will have one or two really bad holes due to lack of practice/inconsistency. Having played this long I think that's my natural talent maxed out without playing significantly more golf - i.e. 3+ times a week.

What sort of courses do you play?

Links as much as possible, but usually pretty flat parkland. Nothing particularly huge in parkland, but some challenging long par-4s on my main links course.

Anything exciting in the golf bag?

I've amassed a pretty nice little armoury over the years - Taylor Made R320 driver, Adams Tight Lies Strong 4 wood, Adams Tight Lies irons (steel/graphite composite shafts), Cleveland Gunmetal SW and RTG LW, Titleist Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter. Still absolutely love every single club in my bag, but particularly my irons and putter.

Any good golfing achievements?

Best golfing achievement has to be a pitch-in eagle from 120yds with a 9-iron. Par 4, sitting nicely on the fairway from a 3-iron drive, 120yds left. Hit a perfect 9-iron, ball landed just left of the flag, checked up and rolled in perfectly. I jumped about like a complete maniac for about 2 minutes. Not too sure what the players behind made of it!

Apart from that, a few low-80s rounds and generally nice shots where you crush it or put the ball exactly where you want. Chipping in or sinking a long putt never gets old, and part of the reason why I still get just as excited before a round now as I did over ten years ago.

What about everyone else?

Have not played in years due to work and uni. But this is where i used to be at

How long have you been playing?
3 years

What do you play off and how often do you usually play?
Got down to an 18. Depending on time of year, Winter usually once a week/fortnight. Summer usually at least 4 times a week.

What sort of courses do you play?
Played at two clubs in my time, One was very "hilly" and the other was fairly flat and long.

Anything exciting in the golf bag?
Nothing new...

Any good golfing achievements?
Best shot was on a par 3 at my last club.

That's a picture of the hole with the water surrounding the green.

Anyway had a bad tee-off and it landed just to the right side of that tee in-between those trees. Second shot chipped over the water rolled across the green and sank it for a birdie.

I have been playing on and off for the past four years. I haven't played this year yet. Last year I played about 6 rounds

What do you play off and how do you usually play?

No really got into the handicapp thing. If I played more then perhaps I would get one.

What sort of courses do you play?

Local courses really, mainly parkland, and a few private ones when I am with my boss

Anything exciting in the golf bag?

No, just a standard set of clubs, all have been made longer. I seriously need a made to measure set, being 6ft 5" tall. There not doing me any favours.

Any good golfing achievements?

Bragging rights over mates :D

How long have you been playing and how often do you play?

Been playing since I was around 12. Used to play most days of the week when I was still at school, including the usual 36 holes at the weekend. Don't get a lot of time to play these days though which is a shame.

What do you play off and how do you usually play?

Was playing off an 8 the last time I put in for a handicap, but haven't been playing regularly the past year.

What sort of courses do you play?

Generally links golf or parkland. Links is a bit trickier but allows a different variety of shots to be played.

Anything exciting in the golf bag?

Don't know about exciting, but I'm a TaylorMade man, only exception is my bag (Ping). Best thing in my bag though are my r7 tp irons.

Any good golfing achievements?

Not really, was never one for tournaments or competitions, just getting my handicap into single figures was an achievement for me.

How long have you been playing and how often do you play?

Started before I was 10 that's for sure, as young as 7 maybe? My Grandad used to take me and my brothers to a private 9 hole course a few times a year. For the last 4/5 years I'm lucky if I get 10 full rounds a year.

What do you play off and how do you usually play?

I play off 5 and it's been creeping up from 3 for the last 4/5 years. I've got no doubt that if I joined a club in Glasgow or went back to Perth to play regularly that it would start coming down again.

What sort of courses do you play?

Very hilly parkland is my home course. Love links golf though.

Anything exciting in the golf bag?

Titleist 975J-VS 8.5deg or Titleist 905R 10.5deg
18 deg Mizuno Fli-Hi Driving Iron instead of a 3-wood
Mizuno MP-62s 3-PW (custom fit as old ones didn't fit anymore)
Wedges are 56 Mizuno MP-10 Black and 52/60 RAC Black
Ping Zing G2i Putter

Any good golfing achievements?

Getting to the last 64 of the Scottish Boys matchplay tournament and getting beaten by the eventual semi-finalist 2 and 1 (won my second round match 8 and 7 :D). Being the youngest winner of my clubs junior championships when I was 13, winning the junior county order of merit and representing the club and county in various matches. Never had a hole in one but had a fair few eagles. Definitely peaked as a golfer pre drinking age :p

How long have you been playing and how often do you play?

Probably about 20 years, played a lot when I was a teenager, then went to Uni and had no money so didn't play for a while, about 7-8 years. now playing once a week now. Kids, Family, Work etc don;t allow much more time than that

What do you play off and how do you usually play?

Currently 9.9 (10), usually fairly solid player, hit the ball fairly long, not ridiculous but tend to have 2 bad holes a round which cost me.

What sort of courses do you play?

Ayr Belleisle is my home club so being west of Scotland lots of links courses, playing Dundonald Links in a weeks time and need to arrange games at Turnberry and Fairmount St Andrew that I have vouchers for this year.

Anything exciting in the golf bag?

Ping G15 Stiff 10.5 Driver
Ping G10 Stiff 3 Wood
Taylor Made 18Degree rescue (one of the old ones but I hit it really well)
4-PW - G10 Pings Stiff, green dot, 0.5 inches longer than standard
52 Degree Vokey Spin Milled
60 Degree Mizuno Black Ox (soon to tbe replace with 60 Vokey)
Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Putter
Balls - usually in good weather etc - Pro V 1, otherwise Srixon Z-URS

Bit of a ping man!

Any good golfing achievements?

Hole in 1 at the 1st about 4 years ago on Seafield. Currently Club Captain for Belleisle this year, and making the top 20 in the Hall of Fame national championships which meant I got the play Kings Course @ Gleneagles and Ladybank. Finished 20th out of 20!!!:D:D

Congrats on the hole in one :) Did the rest of your round go equally well or did the adrenaline get to you? The round I got my pitch-in eagle I came really close to a hole in one as well (ball pulled up 2 inches short) and it just felt like a really 'on' day with my irons.

I absolutely love my Newport 2, I went into a golf shop recently and barely recognised some of what they had in there as putters! The balance of it is just absolutely perfect.

How long have you been playing and how often do you play?

Got my first set of clubs at the age of 7, but didn't really get into golf till i was about 14. first handicap was 19, and was down to 4.0 by the time i was 17 or 18. But didn't have the time or money to play when i started uni (plus working 4 night shifts), so in the last 9 years i've probably only played maybe a couple times a year on average.

Looking to get back into it now though, and thinking about joining my old club.

What do you play off and how do you usually play?

See above

What sort of courses do you play?

I used to play Mapperley Golf Course (http://www.mapperleygolfclub.org/) Very hilly and very difficult to hit the fairways in the summer when the ground firmed up.

Anything exciting in the golf bag?

To be honest i'm not 100% sure what all my clubs are now, From memory:

Titleist 975 J-VS with a swix shaft
Mizuno TP-21 irons 2-9, PW, MW
Titleist Vokey 56 & 60 degree wedges (the rusty finish type)
Ping Isopur Putter not sure which model.

Any good golfing achievements?

Played for notts boys U16 for a year, and was called up to play for U18 but didn't go due to work commitments. Played for my clubs scratch team a few times. Also won a couple of junior opens.
Shot a couple 69's from of yellow tees playing with mates. and once drove through the back of the green on a 400 yard par 4. :D

How long have you been playing and how often do you play?

Played for the last 4 years now. Took it up after i had to give up rugby due to a couple of fractured vertebrae. Currently play at least once a week, more in the summer if i can wangle it.

What do you play off and how do you usually play?

Currently off 14, decent length off the tee but my main strengths are bunkers, chipping/pitching and putting. I can never seem to get all the elements of my game going at the same time. It's happened once and i got to the 17th just a couple over par, managed a 78 on a par 72 (SSS of 72 also).

What sort of courses do you play?

Anything i can. Love links golf especially in the howling gales.

Anything exciting in the golf bag?

New Taylormade R11 driver this year, taking some getting used to but it's getting there. Love my r7 irons, Ping Tour wedges and Scotty Cameron putter.

Any good golfing achievements?

Once started a round with par (par 3), par (par 3), birdie (par 4), eagle (par 4), eagle (par 5)! Also won the golf tour last year with two rounds of decent(ish) golf scoring 38 and 40 points.

How long have you been playing? 16 years
What do you play off and how do you usually play? No actual handicap at the moment but I'll be joining my local club soon so I'll look to sort that. I usually play what I'd call "decent" - my striking of the ball is never a concern bar my Driver and my short game's improving. The only thing I need to improve slightly I'd say is club/shot selection.
What sort of courses do you play? Varies. There's a nice links course 2 miles from me that I've played 6 or 7 times but it's very windy and horrible in the winter. I prefer parkland courses :)
Anything exciting in the golf bag? No!
Any good golfing achievements? Not really. Hit the pin on a par 3 twice but never holed one. That's the best I've got!

They were commenting it was the worst ever total on a par 4, think i've seen someone take 9 on a par3 before on the tour, also John daly took 18 on a par 5 once too!

I was once 3 under through 13 in an open and playing really solid golf. Drove up the side of the fairway at the 14th and saw a nice new looking ball under the bush beside me. Stuck my arm under to get it and the whole bloody thing got stung by nettles. Cue me being unable to swing properly and I went 12, 9, 7 for the next three holes which were par 5, 4 and 3. Safe to say I was a little bemused. Still I'd have probably cocked it up anyway :p

How long have you been playing?

My dad gave me his clubs (Wilson Blades) after he realized he would never be any good. So that makes it nearly 40 years

What do you play off and how do you usually play?

Handicap is 13 but it varies hugely based on whether I'm playing a local course I know or abrand new one with one of my golf societies.

What sort of courses do you play?

Any that are of offer.

Anything exciting in the golf bag?

Recently acquired matching 909F3 and 909H to go with the Titleist 909D3 driver, Titleist 962 irons and Vokey wedge.
Sadly retired my persimmon headed Honma fairway woods.

Any good golfing achievements?

Spent 18 months playing golf in Thailand and got down to 6 with my last round there including a gross one under for the back nine in a personal best gross +2 for 18.
