World of Tanks Beta

What skins are people using?

My Marder II currently uses Gesar's skin for the 4th Pz. Div and my Hetzer is With Gesar's skin for Abteilung 95th, 3rd Gebirgsdivision

Some of the skins are top quality and add a little something to the game visually.
I did not know you could skin tanks! Just made this game even better, I love skinning stuff.

Hide ;)

The Hetzer is at it's best well away from the point of engagement and sniping, it's not an assault gun to smash into the frontline. Patience pays when you're manning the feisty little begger :D

I was trying to go for that approach but it took forever to load me into the match so while I was trying to get into a sniping position I got caught out and smashed in the side repeatedly...

Whoever feels like they want to lead the clan can create a OcUK clan here.

http://game.worldoftanks.eu/clans/new/

I would create it but I'm not sure how much time would need to be spent on running the clan as in the next few months my time will most likely be limited.

Anybody else up for creating the clan?

Two things I need to ask,
A) How is it fair that tanks can fire at you while remaining unseen?
and
B) Why have the creators of this game still not sorted out the problems with being tracked? Somebody shot at me from my left and they destroyed my left track, just as that got repaired they destroyed the right track(Nobody else was firing and he was still on my left) and then he destroyed my left track again leaving me with no chance...

Yeah its great fun, wasted to many hours on it so far. :) Some of the layouts on the textures maps are completely random though, there seems to be no set (& sensible) location for the minor bits of tanks, I've spent ages hunting for a spade handle or hatch ring, most of the time similar 'items' will be placed together but sometimes they're scattered all over the map like crazy. All part of it though :p

Admittedly all the tank models will use the skin you've chosen for that type and no one can see what skins you are using but seeing tanks in more accurate period colours (Particularly German vehicles) adds something.

This is another good one. http://wotskins.ucoz.ru/ (in russian but it should be fairly obvious what to click on)

Best also to check the forums, as those sites tend to be slow to update.

The EU skin forum actually tends to be the most active. http://forum.worldoftanks.eu/index.php?/forum/91-tank-skins/

A: Its to do with the spotting system, check here if you want to read on the details. http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/Battle_Mechanics#Visibility_.28Radio_Range_and_View_Range.29

Its really worth a read as it can help you better position yourself in game or act as a good scout if you play one. The tldr version though is don't underestimate soft cover like bushes, be aware of site lines and if you are unsure never stop in the open.

It is kinda bugged right now and will be 'fixed' in the next update (6.4 which is in semi public testing right now on the RU server).

B: It is possible to send a shell underneath the body of a tank which still passes through both tracks. Track repair time is a bitch when you don't have 100% crew, plus at low tiers with generally high RoF in most tanks its more so the case. Again the next patch, 6.4, is changing the tracking system so you either have to fire at (roughly) the front or rear third of tank tracks to track them, rather than anywhere on the lower side of a tank being a possible track shot. Think there are few other changes coming as well.

I have read that page now and the spotting system still makes no sense, I was camped in bush watching a road, somehow an enemy used the road to get behind me and kill me...

How did my tank not spot this person as he went up the road?

OMG OMG FFS!!!!

The best battle I have ever had :D :D They have blasted everyone except me, there were eight of them left I had no kills by this point. I end the battle with a win and 8 more kills to my name :D :D, you have to love the Marder II and it's 7.6cm Pak 36(r) sometimes!!!

Monkeymatt.

They may have camo nets on which if they stop and they have high skills on the crew for camo and a camo net and stuff they can disappear. Usually on big tanks like kv etc.

What you wana do is keep ur distance but be near a big tank of ur group use them as a shield. Most of the time they will hit the bigger tanks first and you can provide support to the big tank from a distance.

Radios. Crew. These things detect tanks too so dont lose or injure a crew member in ur tank and have a good radio.

Careful of bushes, all they have to do is hide behind one (not be in it fully) to mask their front and you wont see em if they stay still and not move their turret (right click holds ur turret).

Always keep ur front to the enemy don't turn as ur side and rear armour sucks compared to front.

Woo got the 107mm back on my SU-85. Time to be useful in the higher tier battles.

EDIT: Muhahaha love this gun, took out an IS-3 from 20%. Much better than dinging off KVs with the 85, makes it one of, if not the best, 'oh no im a low tier tank stuck in a high tier match' tank in the game.

Stay well back in starter tanks and pot shot if u can from a distance. Watch how its played cos ur almost certain gona die a lot before u start winning and getting kills. Level up as soon as u can. Pick a tank you want and level up to it. Find what you like, i.e scout, sniper, close range, arty gameplay tanks.

Something has clicked for me in the last few days. I've been having a few immense games, proper smash and grab wins when it all looked lost. Patience and the long game view is definitely in the asscendency for me at the mo. Sit back watch the battle progress and come in where most needed. It wasn't this much fun for me in beta so I don't what has changed in my approach since live  but I love it :D

been playing as the ms-1 and got my first kill my 3rd game :)

well i say kill more like a finish off really, i got to a junction looked down the street and a tank was on 4% health :D

stupidly made the mistake of upgrading my ms-1 :(

staying beside bigger tanks seems to work and hiding in bushes :)

Any clever guys out there know how to mod the HUD?

I'm playing on 3 screens with nvidia surround and the Hit/chat box, team lists and map are on the far left and right of the side screens. I would love to be able to move them to the edges of the centre screen.

Since all the gfx are handled client side I'm sure it can be done, I've even poked around in one of the xml files but its all double dutch to me...

Ran into a Churchill earlier with my Marder, boy do those things take a pounding! Landed 6 hits on him with another guy shooting as well and I was done in 2 shells when he turned to me heh.
