Windows 8 release date leaked

I hope they do the introductory pricing again. I think I paid around £40-45 for my retail copy of Windows 7. Bargain.

The Windows 8 cloud stuff is interesting, but, as with most cloud services, wake me up when I have symmetric 100mb broadband.

when I buy any windows from now on, Im gonna buy them near/on release date because the price just went up and up with win7. Its madness, Win7 oem/home was about £40 -50 at the beginning, and now look at the price of it.:mad:

OH NO! £124 [HP Retail, and can be had for cheaper too] for something you absolutely require to do anything on your PC and works out at about 34p a day over a year. The horror! The outrage!

£124 for a product that updates itself regularly, for free, for years. Those evil MS ********!

You probably spend more on useless crap every day.

Quite right too Mr SiriusB .... works out cheaper than a tv license :)

Less than any daily paper too and seeing as most news is on even the newspapers website before it's in the newsagent whats the point in them?

Hopefully 8 will have super concise ultra efficient coding.

Seems to me they urgently need to catch up in the slate/touch screen device OS space. A new Windows OS this year would make a lot of sense.

I remember being very excited when my win7 full version double disc 32 + 64 bit version was delivered in 2009, purchased pre-order for the princely sum of £64.68, :) only just over half the price of the HP full version today. Well worth it. The 64 bit OEM version of HP is still quite cheap though. Am I right in thinking that someone with the OEM version only gets to install it once, but the full version is unlimited installs subject to being only on one computer at a time?

I will stick with windows 7 until maybe windows 9-10. Windows 7 runs very nicely and tbh cant see there being much improvement in window 8 if any.

OEM is tied to the hardware, you can make so many installs before it doesn't activate then just give MS a call on the automated line and it will activate with a given activation code.

RETAIL is where you can put it on any machine aslong as it's one machine as many activations as you require without calling MS.

I know its in their financial interest to release a new one soon but 7 isn't exactly crying out for an overhaul. Money speaks loudest.
They're doing the dev work anyway to get where they want to be when everyone really is ready for something new. By releasing something they at least get some of that money back, and might get people upgrading from the version before last (e.g. businesses who are using Vista)

Plus they can't afford a repeat of XP and let people get dug in with Windows 7 for 10 years. There are still people now who refuse to upgrade, who have no legitimate reason not to! Weirdos! :p

If Windows 8 was released this year [unlikely] I probably wouldn't upgrade - though would definitely snag it at the introductory price if that is repeated! :p I expect BETA and RC releases would be the order of the day as this was a massive success with Windows 7.

No Windows 8 wont release in time as MS take it time and the release date will be between 2012-2013 along with new IE10 also it may not running 32bits OS as MS mentioned about dumped 32bits OS and create new 128bits but that may using W8 or W9 so if not 128bots then it may be 64bits OS alone and then next Windows 9 may run 64/128bits OS in the future...

I like building computers, working with computers, always have, but nothing more annoying than running into frequent problems...

When i moved to windows vista, i rolled back to xp within 1 week after numerous crashes, poor compatability.. and i stuck with this until Windows 7 came out... I ran it on a dual boot for about 4 weeks using the RC, and this sold it to me pretty much. Since then i've loved it....

I'll probably buy windows 8.. But do the same, install it on a second harddrive if they do a RC of it... then if it's as stable as windows 7 with nice features.. I'll be making the move...

However, if theys no introductory price/no RC/Beta i'll be sticking with windows 7 until i have to move.

Where is the source of that information.

No source, it's just guessing, 128bit OS kinda gives it away.

Having said that MS desktop OS have traditionally been on a 3(ish) year cycle (with the exception of Vista). The 3 year cycle combined with the beginnings of Win8 leaks and taking into account the IE10 preview and the previous IE9 release cycle puts a Win 8 release first half of 2012(ish).
