I've recently started buying Manuka honey after a friend recommended it. It's very expensive compared to standard honey and I googled around for the benefits but unfortunately it was vague. Claiming stories of healing etc.

Does anyone know what the "claimed" benefits are for your health etc? Weight loss, high blood pressue, cancer, diabetes etc etc. I was expecting to see all that but nothing.

Anyone?

There's a type of honey which is apparently meant to really help alleviate Arthritic pains, it's Australian I believe - Not sure if this is that stuff. Probably a load of rubbish, like most 'super foods'.

When I was over in NZ they were plugging the stuff all the time. I just bought a load just because it's expensive here and relatively cheap out there. No idea about the health benefits though I'm afraid!

If you want to lose weight then eating sugary honey is probably not the way to do it. The only healing claim I'm aware of is it's antibacterial properties.

probably didnt all thar rubbish about tomatoes beeing anti oxidents or whatever turn out to be bs ?

According to recent studies at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, Manuka honey helps make MRSA and similar 'super' bugs susceptible to antibiotics again by breaking down the biofilms they build to protect themselves. Interesting stuff. Linkage.

I have developed access to Welsh Wonder Water, this secret method involves wringing out trained Moles that are sent down into the deepest depths of Snowdonia, to an underground Lake so pure that the Welsh Dragon allegedly used to drink from it, drinking this water will give you super human powers over time (Some people can take many years to develop the super powers, so don't worry if things don't happen immediately!)

Any way due to the very high costs of training the Moles and developing a unique technique of gently wringing them out this amazing Water has of course a hefty Price-Tag, for just the very special Members of the Forum I am able to offer this product at COST PRICE!! I can let you have 1 WHOLE LITRE of this INCREDIBLE ELIXIR for only £999.99 Take advantage of this FANTASTIC OFFER by contacting my colleague Mr. Owatango K'tumbe, of Nigerian Import/Export on 123-456-78910, the Water will be despatched in USED Coke Bottles as this will disguise the true product from thieves. Thank you for your time everybody!

There are no benefits, it's just bee vomit.

Manuka honey is only beneficial when it's "medical grade", not the stuff you find in holland and barrett etc. IIRC it only works externally too, ingesting it does diddly squat.

It's currently being trialled (and working quite well) in bandages and dressings for its antibacterial properties for wound healing. I'll try and find the paper I read last week if anyone is interested.

That's not what I'd call a reputable website, providing blogs and geocities websites as references...

Well... why don't you have a little google for yourself. Honey has been proven in numerous studies to aid in weight loss in a healthy balanced diet. I have spoken to numerous sports nutritionists who back the claims up.

It is natural sugar in honey, not the refined type found in chocolate etc. Please don't comment on things you clearly have absolutely no understanding of.

I heard this aswel. Apparently anything above a rating of 10 is considered effective. Holland and Barret do this. According to the official website.
