Opinions on OcUK Battle 650W modular PSU

Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone had bought one of the above & could tell me what they think of it?

Seen a couple of reviews who say the cables are too short, but neglect to really say which one- what extension cable could I be getting if I get one of these?

They're fine for generic builds where 600W is going to be completely overkill, but for a higher-end/gaming build, I'd entrust it to a PSU with better stability and efficiency, never mind build quality.

If you have a look around, you can find either the Antec Basiq 550W or the Coolermaster Silent Pro M 500W for ~£50.

Well no one knows who the OEM is for those PSU's, its well known that cheapy PSU's never deliver the rated wattage, or if they do its at unrealistic conditions.

get a PSU that has been well tested and reviewed and proven to be safe to use with expensive gear, so it will safely shut down without frying any other parts.

Don't try and economise on the psu. I think you should look to save money elsewhere. A good quality, highish wattage psu should last you for years and through lots of other upgrades.
 
I want a module PSU because my Antec 900 is a mess...more or less have to unplug everything on the offchance I want to change my graphics card or plug in a new drive..and I HATE it.
 
Cheap psu = replaced motherboard and other components.

The psu is the starting point to your system and last thing you want is a crappy start.
 
How come the Antecs have gone up in price recently?

I bought the 650w 3 months ago for £65 from OCUK. Great PSU, can't complain.

Also, how come the 650w seems to be more than the 750w? am i missing something?

A mate is starting a build soon, and i was going to recommend one, but they seem to be of slightly less value now?

Think OCUk got a special deal on the 750w so they are cheaper than the 650w version.

Before their current low price they were £100something, still cheaper than the XFX 750w modular psu.

dont forget the exchange rate £-$ too.

btw,does the term 'modular' cover semi-modular now as well? as it makes sense really as you are going to use the cables attatched anyway. Someone was saying the other day that they wanted a modular over a semi-modular and we were discussing(arguing) the point.:)
