Is this stuff good and would you recomend using it?

Me and the missus had the house a year and having eventually finished the inside the garden is the next job.

It's a weed patch. It's disgusting at the moment, will update with pics later. A few people have recomended using W+F as it will kill the weeds and help the grass grow at the same tine.

So do I just buy the stuff and chuck it down, hey presto! Or do I need to prep in sone way?

Cheers

Yes it is good, we put this on our lawn several times a year (there are different ones depending on what season it is). Just spread it evenly over your lawn and hope it rains within a day or two of spreading it, if not then use the hose pipe to water it in.

Yes its definitely worth doing.. When I moved into my house last at the start of last year, the back garden was a right state! It was more weeds and moss than grass.

The best thing to do would be to get out there with a rake and spend a bit of time raking all the thatch out. It will look a bit bare once you've done that, but then give it a good dose of feed and weed. Give it a few weeks after you've put the feed and weed down and then give it a scattering of new grass seed. After a couple weeks the new seed will start to grow and fill in the patches.

I've tossed a whole box down on the front lawn, not really sure if I have spread it evenly enough but I should have.

As you say when its all done in a couple of weeks just whack lawn seed down and then it should start growing in? When I put the lawn seed down should I put some feed on with it?

I think it will depend on the percentage of grass to weeds. If you have hardly any grass u may get rid of the weeds but the grass will not suddenly appear because there is not enough grass there.

U could use it and if its way too patchy pop some grass seed down....just chuck down and water regularily. u can get cheap grass wilkinson.

I just stuck some extra seed down after a couple weeks, the nutrients from the feed and weed should still be in the soil.

Erm too much will cause a scorched earth effect :p even to your lawn (learnt from experience last year :() You'll look like a level from Fallout3 and find teenagers sneaking around it shouting *prap prap* at each other.

Also be aware you are probably creating one nice big kitty litter tray :D

If you check the sides of the boxes (weed killer/grass seed) some say don't do fresh seeds for about 6 months. Turf *might* be ok.

That would be just my luck :p

spent most of the rest of the day peeking out the windows expecting to see a new lovely weed free lawn suddenly appear :p

I put waaaaay too much F&W down last year and like JBod it left my garden looking lawn very bare! I tried re-grass seeding it last year but none took.

Now almost 12 months later I re-seeded the whole lawn last weekend and have my fingers crossed it will come up this time!

For the time and money I've invested I would have probably been better digging it all up and re-turfing it instead!

Note to all, beware of the F&W if like me you're heavy handed!
