What was the last word or phrase that you learnt?*

For me, it was "fam":

Urban Dictionary said:
fam

a word use to describe your peoples. ones that you can trust dearly. someone you consider family, e.g.

my fam wuz mad deep up in the club the other day

Heard it on the bus a couple of nights ago. I assumed it was something derogatory.

*edit- What was the last word/phrase you learnt that isn't "fam"? :p

edit 2- What was the last word or phrase that you learnt that you didn't just learn from this thread?

opposite marriage

The P.C. way to specify the legal union of a man and a woman, as made popular by Miss California at the 2009 Miss USA pageant.
MISS CALIFORNIA: "We live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage"

The only person I know that says 'fam' is a black lad in uni. Haven't heard any new words lately, but when I do I will always here it again for a 2nd time in the day at some point. Rather odd.

Serendipity

1. The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.
2. The fact or occurrence of such discoveries.
3. An instance of making such a discovery.

I've known the word for years (probably because of the film) but only recently checked out it's proper definition. It didn't mean quite what I thought it did.

'Hunt the Gowk' I've heard of a 'gowk' before but never the term.

On April fools day to send someone on a fools errand to deliver a sealed note which read "Never laugh, never smile, Hunt the gowk another mile." Recipients of this note would send the gowk somewhere else until they had been run all over town.

"lefties"

Usually when a person who is strongest with their left hand is mentioned they are called "retarded" or "weirdos" I didn't realise they had thought of a much nicer name for themselves...

Does it not have to be a real word to count? I don't believe Urban Dictionary counts as a proper source. :p

That's fantastic, it's right up there with "go get us some tartan paint" and "we need a bucketful of steam".

Mountebank is probably one of the most recent words I've learned, I'd known of it for quite a while but never inquired too deeply into the meaning as context was sufficient to satisfy. However it means "a person who deceives others/a charlatan".
