Hi chaps,

My G/F is currently wanting to sell her 57 plate 1.4 Clio. She's insisted she wants a 5door car in preparation for children.... but she would like something with a lot of toys i.e climate control, a/c etc etc.

She wants a focus because her dad loves ford's and thinks they are amazing...

The budget we have is around 6k could stretch to 6.5 at a push.

She's not fussed about going too fast so i'm looking audi a4's/bmw 3 series etc,
she says the a4's i have pointed out are " too high mileage" when im looking at only 90k miles.. and shes too small for the BMW flat pedal throttle,

Help me convince her there's more to to life then fords and high mileage doesnt mean its going to break !!

Let her buy the Focus, let her Dad pick some out, it's not as if she's suggesting a MGF or a Daewoo Matiz, if you convince her otherwise when it breaks it'll be your fault and her Dad will give you the 'told you so' looks.

Just get a Focus. Any big bills (that are very possible with a BMW/Audi) will be your fault if not.

If she wants a Focus why saddle her with the increased cost of ownership of an older Audi or BMW?

Let her have the Focus - its the best car in its class and is far from a bad choice.

Buying 6 grand 100k mile prestige cars is what you do when you really like them and are not bothered about spending your saturday morning trying to explain whats wrong with it today to the local indy.

It doesnt sound like there is any benefit to her at all of going this route.

If you crave an old Audi perhaps you should buy one yourself, and let her have the Focus she wants? You can then borrow the Focus when the Audi is being fixed.

Fox my man, tell me how to word my disgusted complaint to Bentley!

So your girlfriend wants to buy a car But you want to tell her what to buy ? Hm ?

I Totally agree with you There is more to life than Fords - But come on shes spending 6 grand, Really you wont do much better than a Focus for 6 grand.

Listen to Fox hes right, you go and lumber her with a high milage Audi and it really will be your fault when it goes throwing Bills at her.

Fords may not be amazing but there is a reason They have sold over 9 million focus's :)

A six grand budget does not scream high mileage Audi to me
