Hi guys, hoping someone can help me here.

I was just checking out the system information in my AI Suite inside Windows (this suite was part of the MB CD that came with it) and I have the following, very strange info:

rev1infoboard.png

http://img852.imageshack.us/i/rev1infoboard.png/

As you can see it says Rev 1.xx but is this right? The board is Rev 3 - I double checked the box it came in and everything and it definitely is the Rev 3!

Also, I was prompted to start checking this information because I am experiencing issues with a cold boot - the process is one of these 2@

1) system powers on for about 5 seconds, powers down then powers on again, begins boot, Intel Marvell ACHI Adapter (something along the lines of no disks found, press space to continue), then the American MegaTrends logo comes up.

After this the PC either goes to a flashing white underscore and then nothing happens or the underscore disappears and then Windows boots normally.

Can anyone advise?

System setup is as following:

Asus P8P67 Pro
Intel i5 2500k OC'd to 4.7GHZ
Corsair Vengeance RAM (8GB)
Corsair CSSD F120 (120GB SSD)
2 other HDD's - 1.5TB and 2TB
Radeon HD 6870

The first re-boot is normal for Asus boards which are overclocked. The system starts, turns off and starts again. Perfectly normal.

I believe the white underscore is the point at which Windows starts. It would seem that sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.

Are you sure your overclock is stable?

I have B2 & it says Rev 1.xx also, a friend of mine has the B3 board & in the Bios it says B3 or something similar.

Check in the Bios instead of in windows sofware.

I have Bios 1502 installed, this got rid of the double boot issue, you might be better to upgrade to it.

Its not perfectly normal for all boards, about 3 in 5 times mine doesn't dual boot, the rest of the time it does.

Thanks for the replies all. Good to know that this double boot is normal for OC'd machines as I was starting to think that perhaps it wasn't.

I will double check the BIOS though. I do seem to remember it saying that it was Rev3 when I went in there, just a little thrown about the Version Number. And since have noticed that if I click 'system info' button when the MB CD is in the serial number is completely wrong to that starting on the box.

Very odd! Is it safe to install the BIOS from within the Windows environment? I am sort of reluctant to do it at the moment, unless completely necessary as the manual advises me that.

Anyone else encountered these problems with the flashing white cursor? Bios/ boot etc looks fine. It happened to me this morning (first time cold boot since yesterday) and I thought it was the power/ data lead on the SSD to replaced it with a spare and it worked fine.

OC should be stable - I purchased the machine as a bundle, pre overclocked & guaranteed.

Thanks again all, massive help :)

Be carefull, if you bought the o/c bundle from, say overclockers, then you may invalidate your warranty by upgrading the bios, best to check with them first.

I don't have the double boot issue at all.

I purchased from a reputable retailer but fair shout - I will check with them.

Do remember reading about the double boot thing actually, it's not really that much of a biggie - just rather stop it sometimes going to the flashing underscore ad then not booting Windows

OK, I can switch to the normal profile I guess, but that defeats the object of having the overclock really. I am not going to change any of the settings on the profile though as I specifically did not want to be doing that and risk doing anything.

Would an overclock really cause Windows to not boot though?

Yes an overclock can cause problems but your problems strarted when you decided on the asus board as there loads of reported problems with these boards which many havent been able to sort out only by swapping to another make.
Theres loads of reading to do on this forum to try and get answers to your problems.
