Whats the 480 vs 6950

I have a 6950 & a 480 at the moment and don't ask me why but I prefer the 6950 and will be returning the 480. The 480 is a quicker card but it just does not feel right to me..? I have no idea why tbh...

Image quality, temps, smoothness? Or, something else I haven't mentioned? It's all right, we won't bite. :D

I honestly don't know could be image quality, It might be because the rest of my system is Amd I feel more comfortable with the 6950.? The 480 is quicker but tbh in games its not as noticeable as benchmarks but I'm only at 1920x1080 so maybe a higher res would show a more noticeable difference.
Really don't know, the few games that support physx look better, Batman, Mafia and Mirrors edge have a few additions with physx.
But its packed up and awaiting collection tomorrow and the 6950 is the one I'm keeping maybe I'm just mad...

A good, solid card by all accounts is the 6950. I know what you mean though, I've had something like eight ATI / AMD cards, and on the whole they've all been excellent. Not one has crapped out on me. Enjoy your card. :)

Out of interest, how does it perform when AA is applied? Does the frame rate hold up okay? That's my only real bugbear with AMD cards. I've never had a major driver issue; I honestly have wondered if part of the problem is partly down to the fact that their drivers are under scrutiny more often since they release one every month. It might be better if they released drivers less frequently. :)

The 480 is the better performing card. Even shader unlocked and overclocked, the 6950 is just not as good as a decently oc'ed 480. If you want power and don't care about sparing the horses then get the 480 Gigabyte SOC definitely.

Having said that I do love my Sapphire 6950. It performs superbly and I've already bought my brother a 6950 for the rig I'm building him.

Hi guys, i've had a good read through and in the end it was upto my brother (Whom i was building the pc for) and he decided that he just can't stretch out to get the 480 so he ended up getting the XFX 2gb 6950 card. Not sure if 2GB was needed since hes only running 1 monitor but i guess it's a little more "future proof".

The build i did for him is as follows:

Phenom II 965 x4 @3.4GHZ
Corsair H70 Watercooler
Corsair Dominator 8GB 1333
Gigabyte UD3H 880 chipset
Cooler Master Gold Pro Series 700Watt (Modular)
Seagate Barracuda 6GB/S 1TB HDD
Samsung DVD/RW
AMD XFX 6950 2GB GPU
Fractal Design Define R3 Mid Tower Case
Enermax Magma Twister 120mm Fans x 2
Sharkoon Golf Ball 140mm Exhaust Fan
Fractal Design 120mm Low RPM Fans x 2

I wired it up so that the cpu fans on the rad is controlled by the fan controller which came with the R3 case. Runs really cool aswe, cpu never jumps over 32 on stock settings atm.

Hes thinkin about it, but i read in the manual that the second lane only runs in x4 speed and not x16 speed. Not sure how this will affect performance if anyone knows?

Just took delivery of my XFX 6950!

Oh my days this things mahossive! No bios flashing for me for now...but might increase the standard clocks. Should fit nicely in my Lian Li PC60.:)

It's mahoosive indeed! About the same size as my 5870 but i think it looks a tad bit better. The presentation of it is without a doubt good, price is awesome aswel!

good luck fitting that in your PC60!! I assume you're planning to take the HDD cage out or you could be in trouble!!

It fits!! lol! Theres a good 10mm clearance from the HDD bays so all good! The 6990 is 12" so no way that would have fitted but this fits just fine!

Drivers installed!

Crysis 2 installing! :D
