What would you choose?

I have a xfx 850w core psu so there's no problems with a power supply.

Now if you had the choice of these 3, which would you choose?

1. GTX 480 SE
2. 2gb XFX 6950
3. Crossfire 6850's

Gaming at 1680x1050 for the foreseeable future. New system comes before monitor.

I went for crossfire 6850's rather than cf 5850's as they scale better and have better tessellation.

Should I go for a single card or a multiple card setup? I'd like to play games like Il2:cod and most of the new releases. It'll be paired with an i5 2500k as well.

To be honest for that resolution you could make do with a far cheaper card than those three, however of the three I'd go for the 480 or the 6950, cant go wrong with either.:D

I'd drop the third option, not that it wouldn't be great value for good performance, just that a 480 or 6950 will more than likely give you better minimum and average frame rates. I found 1680x1050 to be fine for crossfire, though when I went up to 1920x1200 it really allowed the card I had at the time to stretch its legs (a dual gpu card).

Personally I'd get a Gigabyte SOC 480 for just under £220. If it really has to be a case of the 480 SE, then I'd probably go for the 6950, (£40 cheaper last time I looked).

The problems with multi card setups aren't worth it probably. Should I still go for a crossfire mobo if I was to get a 480?

A xfx 850w core was a steal for £68:)

If you already have a mobo, no need to buy a new one. If you are buying a new mobo anyway, I would suggest getting something SLI and xfire compatible to allow further upgrades later.

A xfire mobo won't hurt so you might aswell go for it, just make sure it supports SLI aswell
