Retuned my Sony TV today after losing some channels which has freeview HD built in, and to my surprise I had some HD channels appear. I checked on the website some time ago and apparently freeview HD wasn't coming here until the end of July.

I've only watched a couple of programs so far, but I'm very impressed. Also something that surprised me was that I was getting 5.1 sound through to my amp, I didn't think that was available which is a great bonus :)

Can't wait to watch some good nature programs, these usually show the best of HD.

Just a shame I can't record HD, however I may build a HTPC one day ;)

Just thought I'd share :)

Note: Sorry if any of the typing is a bit rubbish, having to use the forums on my Blackberry as I have no internet!

What transmitter are you tuned to? I'm on Sutton Coldfield and tuned in a new HD TV yesterday and didn't pick up any Freeview HD channels. Apparently it will be Sept 2011 before BBC HD is available but hopefully it might be before then...

On my PVR it says 'Cambs & Beds'. I fitted a new aerial about a fortnight ago, its pointing the opposite way to all the other aerials on my street but I get 100% signal quality and strength. However I think that may be why I've got HD early if I'm using a different transmitter?

I get BBC One HD, BBC HD, ITV 1 HD and Channel 4 HD.

I got the mother to sit by the TV and shout when the signal bars shoot up :D It's not tricky at all, it's not too accurate. The aerial is a huge one, and got a 4-way booster as well. Just had to wire a socket into the loft.

You have the 32" version of the TV I have. Sadly I can't even get normal Freeview where I am, let alone Freeview HD. Not sure if it's the area or just the aerial on the roof of the building, but either way it's not something I can do anything about, sadly. :(

On a related note, there's a firmware update available for your TV. :)

That must be pretty bad! :(

I'll have a look into firmware updates :)

I just found out how to re-organise the channels, so rather than the HD channels being way down in the list, they now replace the SD channels :D

Broadband is coming soon, cant wait to get my TV hooked up and get all the internet TV features.

Best TV I've ever had. Paired with my 5.1 Sony DVD player it's perfect!

The internet features are surprisingly good actually. I expected it to be a gimmick, but iPlayer and Five on Demand are both very nice things to have. Granted, it'd be nice if you could get HD content on it, but picture/sound quality is still rather acceptable. Useful feature to have, especially for me where my aforementioned terrestrial signal is so crap!

That's pretty good to hear :) the usb wifi is a rip-off though, I've fitted a phone line to my room so the router can sit under my tv and use ethernet to the tv and ps3 :) no way am I paying £50 for a usb wifi stick!!

I got Freeview HD for the world cup last year - just got a cheap Bush box for £99 from Argos, so the EPG etc isn't brilliant but it does have optical out which is nice. Watching films on BBC HD/ITV HD/Channel 4 HD is very nice, and you can watch a lot of standard definition programmes on HD which haven't been compressed to buggery like on normal freeview as well.

I thought things were still at the stage were BBC oneHD =/= BBC one all the time (and other programmes) So when a SD was broadcast one BBC one a HDrepeat happened on the other, or the channel was "off"

But guessing these days I am completely wrong or totally outdated.

Yeah, the BBC One HD channel shows the same shows as the SD channel. Anything in SD says "(Upscaled HD)" on my tv, they look better than SD but nothing compared to HD :D I think its the BBC HD channel you're thinking of, that's closed during the day and has a lot of repeats.

Cheers, probally thinking of that. I think a couple of years ago one of the station basically just showed Wimbledon and nothing else.

Beware replacing the standard channels - especially for BBC One HD, where it doesn't broadcast any regional programs!

So - so long as you've put your "SD" channels in the place of the "HD" ones, you can still watch the regional broadcasts :)

I don't know why they can't just play BBC London instead of that damn helicopter noise during the regional news which means I have to reach for the remote.

Yes I noticed that, but the SD channels are still there, I very rarely watch the news anyway! Corrie is in HD, winner :p
