Is this not free anymore? Even the "offical" site suggests some form of payment is required.

Wasn't too long ago. I know we renewed ours in September last year even though it still had a year to run as it meant we got another 2 years for free.

However the charge is still only pretty small.

You mean the VWP arrival/departure form? As 'the green card' is a fairly ambiguous point when it comes to US immigration

Yes, it's $14 per person. Apply here: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/esta.html - Don't use any other link, there are a number of "scam" sites knocking around that will charge you more for the same thing.

Think they finally got the systems talking to each other early last year, I flew over in September and didn't have to fill it in.

I actually have to tick 'Yes' to this due to a weird situation with my grandparents. I also have to get a signed letter from the Secretary of State (have ones from Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice) every time I travel to the US. They also have to greet me at the border and perform an exorcism with the aid of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Worth noting it's valid for 2 years, you just have to update your destination address to use it again.

Ahh, in which case, how long does it last? I had one last June, will that still count, or will I have to get a new one?

Its $18 and lasts for 2 years from the date of first issue.

If you lose your old on you can just do a new one without problem. (you have to pay the $18 though.

You dont HAVE to do the desintation address, the only bits you must do are stared in red.

Ah cool. I never actually got issued one, I did it online. We're staying at the same place too so thats handy

Yup. For some reason, mine's a little longer than 2yrs too - expires July 2012 and I got in in February last year.
