Potentially ridiculous PFA list again

How old do you have to be to not be considered for the Young players award?

23? 21? I've always thought it should be 21.

I believe you qualify if you're 23 or under at the start of the season. I suppose that 20 years ago that was considered young. These days you can be 20 and been playing for 3-4 seasons.

21 would be a better age limit.
Well he was nominated so he was clearly considered

You/he should be thankful for that then. To be nominated for a yearly award after a few cameo appearances is praise enough for his performances in those cameos.

Indeed it would.

Wilshire has shown a lot of good promise and turned in some really decent performances this season for Arsenal, would like to of seen some other young players in the league getting at least a nod.

I'd have liked to have seen Smalling, Rafael and Kelly all in with a shout of the Young Player award, been much more impressed with those 3 this season than I have Wilshire tbh

Wilshire had a great couple of games against Barcelona but other than that I cant see what all the fuss is about, summed it up on SSN where they showed one of Bale's goals against Inter but for Wilshire they showed a mazy run where he laid it off to Walcott who shot wide :p

Kelly had barely played a game in the league at the time of the vote (January) so was never going to be considered. Even when Johnson was out injured, Hodgson preferred to play Carra at RB than Kelly in the league.

Bit of a school boy comment that, but although you didn't mean to you basically stated why he was considered for the award. Wilshere does setup a hell of a lot of chances, unfortunately his colleagues can't finish them :D

What do you think they would show an example of Xavi if he was up for an award?!

Xavi? I dont know, actually scoring a goal maybe? :p

As for Wilshire and his performances against Barcelona, they were after the voting so wouldn't of been in anyone's mind.

Yeah because Xavi scores so many, it's not all about goals you know :p I feel like I'm talking to a school kid here :D

Xavi's got a couple in big games this season, one against Real, one against Arsenal, probably others as well.

Regardless of goals/assists I think there's far more deserving players of the Young Player award

Whoever said they were talking to a schoolboy was correct.

Firstly Wilshire has played as Arsenals DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER for the vast majority of the season, he's also played over 2100 minutes so far. Rafael, with his solitary league assist, has played 1100 minutes or so and Smalling has played even less.

So a guy whose been epic for Arsenal in defensive midfield and has one goal and 3 assists, playing a defensive role shouldn't be considered but Smalling a very much bit part player, who hasn't been anywhere near that impressive should be up for it, or Rafael who as a ultra attacking fullback has little to show for it.

People who watch Wilshire play and think he hasn't been impressive seem to think he should be the English Messi rather than paying attention to the position he is playing.

He's tiny yet I haven't seen a single player "bully" him this season, infact I've seen him show up a shedload of huge players by out muscling, tackling, holding them off, dribbling round them like they aren't there.

He rarely gets in around the box, the few times he does its almost always in games where substitutions changes our formation/setup and he gets put in a more advanced role, when that happens he looks VERY dangerous going forward, but thats happened very few times this year.

Might be worth point out, for the people who still don't get it. Arsenal, Kos, Squillaci, Djourou(ish) Wilshire infront of them...... 31 goals conceded in the league, Utd, Vidic, Rio, Carrick/fletcher infront of them..... 32 goals conceded.

Then look at previous seasons and where Arsenal are on goals conceded vs Chelsea/Utd/liverpool(up to a season ago), bit of a case of Utd doing worse there and Arsenal doing better, but with a MUCH weaker defence, and thats almost entirely down to our midfield being improved defensively, and thats almost exclusively down to Wilshire being brilliant. He's had maybe 2 poor games all season in all competitions.

Also yes, Xavi does score goals, but his game is still assist creating, people don't rate him as a top goal scorer, but a brilliant attacking midfielder who creates chances. But its a poor comparison, Xavi attacking midfielder, Wilshire, defensive midfielder.

Bale, not much to say is there, even less deserving than Giggs, joke award frankly. Bale, a half dozen great games, almost a dozen average games and a half dozen awful games. Promising for the future, maybe, best player this season, not even remotely close, Nasri's probably more deserving and he's been rubbish for half the season.

Gareth Bale (LW)- 26 games, 7 goals, 1 assist. Dirk Kuyt (RW)- 28 games, 10 goals, 5 assists.

Puts it in perspective a little.

Quite surprised that people disagree with Wilshere getting the award, he's been top class all season, had about 2 average games all year, the rest he's been more or less Arsenal's best performer.

Edit - I've just looked and it's only the Man Utd fans, no surprises then :p
