Operation Flashpoint Red River (Digital download only on PC 22/04/11)

Didnt think Dragon Rising was a bad game, just felt rushed and very buggy.

OFPDR Co-Op was good fun with 4 people running missions & when bored of those using some of the open ended custom scenarios available on the ofpdr forums. But the multiplayer was very unstable and once someone crashed out, they couldnt rejoin the mission halfway through, leaving you with the only option of restarting the whole thing. Not fun 30 mins into a mission.

If they've fixed the mp then i'll be giving a go with a few mates just for the co-op.

whats with all those green lasers in the Take the hit trailer ? Bought the last one for the PS3 and it was crap. But then again i love Arma 2.

They need to forget about trying to be like original of and just make it a fully fledged cod alike action game. What killed dr for me was the command system was so sluggish and unintuitive and constantly spoon feeding commands to your team just became a chore.

I couldn't even force myself to get through the first mission of Dragon Rising, which was a a tad gutting after I pinned my colours firmly to its mast instead of Arma. Codemasters... Whatever happened to you? :(

I'm amazed they're still flogging this dead horse tbh. From what little I've played of Arma 2, it just head shots the new incarnation of OFP.

Going by the video below the last game looked pretty good too.

That's obviously pre-rendered though isn't it! if anyone thought that was ingame they were being very naive no PC game has quite looked as good as that yet!

RR footage released to date the majority of it is ingame footage using the game engine its not pre-rendered at all which makes me think this game will definately look pretty good on PC. Check out some of the ingame media here it looks gorgeous ;) in places.

Below is all ingame from certain levels with the producer providing some commentary.

Not saying for a moment that Codemasters or any other publishers do not deceive sometimes with target renders or pre-rendered ingame footage (like even Valve have done with Portal2 on PC using Valve Filmaker to mislead players into thinking they are getting a high res PC game when its just as ordinary looking as Portal1 was!).

No mission editor, no buy. Still play Dragon Rising sometimes because of the dozens of user-made missions.

Shame as well because I really rate the Ego engine and am interested in what the Ego 2 version will bring to this & DiRT3.

Yeah I guess you have to be naive to fall for some of this stuff but it does get some of us.
Curiously who would you put at fault ...those who deceive or those who know no better ?

This tbh.

I played it with a housemate over our lan and the campaign was actually quite a lot of fun and I did enjoy it. It had the potential to be good as it came with the mission editor but I just got bored of making pointless missions and just down right forget it if you wanted mp over the internet. Hopeless.

Both at fault but I agree with you it should not happen but most publishers/developers do this & have done since the beginning of gaming.

Valve are doing it with Portal 2 right now there are loads of trailers all over the internet which clearly show high quality pre-rendered footage created with Valve's Source Filmaker tool but I bet a lot of gamers who never played Portal before or gamers who were not interested but suddenly are will impulse buy it based on the look of that footage in the trailers! I know I was going to blind buy then I looked into it a bit & asked on the Steam forums & someone told me what it was using to pre-render those impressive looking scenes (before then Valve would not respond when I asked about the game engine now I know why!)

You make it sound like that's the only footage Valve have put out. There's plenty of gameplay footage so don't make it sound like they're trying to deceive people. :/

Pre-rendered footage serves (usually) to show some of the characters, locations and art style of the game. If some people buy it purely from those types of trailers then they are quite idiotic.

After Operation Failpoint: Turd Rising, I am never touching this. I mean, are they serious with this in a year of Crysis 2/Arma2/Battlefield 3?

I loved DR. It had bugs, was rushed and was not perfect, BUT playing coop through the whole game was an excellent experience. One of the only games I 1000 pointed on 360.

The PC version had very little hardware requirements and plays fine at 2560x1440 on a 5850m.

I am looking forward to RR but just hope Codemasters can iron out some of the bugs from before, and also give players scoped rifles from the start. A 16km view distance is fine, but not a great deal of fun with Iron sights.

I agree with everyone here, I've just completed the first two missions and the game is much worse than expected (not that I was expecting a good game

).
Gameplay-wise is very linear, there are no tactics involved except for the usual advance->shoot at everything that moves, the controls feel weird (low fov+annoying mouse acceleration) and the AI is definitely stupid. Not to mention the bad graphics, especially the textures, which come directly from the PS2 era and are stuffed by an exaggerate amount of Nextgen™ bloom.

As for the plot/dialogues/characters in the game:

Yeah well that was the point wasn't it? Did you think the PC community were annoyed because they were expecting average graphics? the simple way of putting it in the build-up to OFP-

Community - "Oh my god, those graphics look amazing! This is going the be THE game to buy. Will my hardware be adequate?'

Codemasters - "Yeah, sure, why not? Here, have another trailer."
