that is now 14 years old. For 2 years he sometimes has rheumatism, in the morning the first hour very difficult to walk for him, than not so bad. But now seems that conditions get worse and yesterday I brought him to the veterinary, he also found a severe hip dysplasia ( not sure ot this term ). Anyway he didn't say me directly to put down my dog but I understood....

Sorry to hear that, animals are better than people at times.

My dog had a similar problem at a similar age. He had trouble walking for a year or so, but was still enjoying life. Not long after he started to have trouble making it outside to go to the loo, then suddenly one day he couldn't walk at all. You could see in his eyes he knew his time was up and that he wasn't happy. That day we had him put down :(

I think you'll know when the time's right and take comfort in that he had a good 14 years - a dog can't ask for more than that.

I have a family friend that has had a black lab for absolutely years, must be 13-15 now. The only companion in her house since her husband died. When this dog goes, I dread to think what state she'll be in. The effect of pets on your life really is underestimated by many. I even sniffled a bit when our guinea pigs died, how sad is that?

not at all , i was pretty cut up for a few weeks when i lost my last big dog, nothing quite like a fluffy samoyed, they leave a huge hole in the family :(

Not at all. I've never really had anything more than hamsters but I fully understand the concept of dogs and cats being a 'member of the family'. For a lot of people they're a lot more loyal than their own family. Ok it's probably because they're fed, but you catch the drift.
