I've had my eye on this car for a while now, love the looks and those very pretty led lights :D. Is there anything I should know about this car? I'd be looking at a 2008/08/58 reg. What would be the max I should be willing to spend? Anyone driven one before? Cars mpg is 45 i think but I highly doubt that, what would it be in real life terms? 35? Are they expensive to maintain?

I had a insurance quote of 1.8k that came with an excess of 1k and a compulsory of 3k (not sure what the compulsory part is, but I'm guessing it has something to do with me having to pay 3k upfront if I have an accident)

Second and third choices are:

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Cloverleaf 1.75tbi
Peugeot 508 2.2HDI 204bhp

Thats a lot of insurance for an Audi A5. How old are you?
I definitely wouldnt be comparing an A5 to a Giulietta Cloverleaf.

they are nice little cars but not worth the premium over a E92 330d/i

And thats a stupid amount of money for insurance with a MASSIVE excess. If you have a accident you will have to pay the first 4k!!!!

That insurance is silly high. Look at something else, the A5 is a beauty of a car but £1800 for insurance then £4000 excess its just not worth the risk if god forbid you had an accident.

I drove one a month ago.

I found it thoroughly boring unfortunately. Typical Audi lifeless steering, not particularly sharp handling and the interior was a mess of buttons everywhere and suprisingly for Audi wasn't even that well made. 0-60 was 5.9 seconds but I think these were special Audi seconds which are 1.5 times longer than normal seconds.

Even if it was an amazing car to drive that insurance is crazy.

I've just sold my 57 plate r32 golf which was modded with uprated Porsche cayenne turbo brakes (insurance killer) and paid £900 with a £350 excess at 24yrs old with 5 yrs ncb and living in Birmingham.

Look at something else and by that I mean a 318d BMW if your either 18 or had 11 points??

I drove the A5 Sportback and had a different experience to Fox where I found it well built and nice to drive. The one I drove had the 7 speed S-Tronic DSG box which was very well matched to the engine and it felt very sure footed and had a pretty decent ride. The gearbox made a big difference to being able to launch it and having 4wd even in the wet if was very quick off the line.

The one I tested had the full hd nav and Bose systems both of which were for me must have options.

I guess some of the difference comes from the Sportback being newer and bigger than the Coupe but if I hadn't have driven the Jag XF I've have probably bought one.

BTW if your looking at insurance with those numbers your looking at the wrong car...paying that sort of money is insane.

Insurance aside....

Drove one about 2 years ago, so about the same age as your looking at. Found it well put together, nice interior and decent seats etc. Engine is good, decent power/launch etc and very sure footed in any weather with the 4wd. The one I drove had the manual gearbox which I dont think did it any favours given the engine. Would have been better with the tiptronic.

Never driven one but I wasn't particularly taken with the interior.
Now, the A7/A8 is where it's at.
Even the new A6 seems a bit cheap even though I'm sure it's effectively the same as the A7.

21 years old. With a decent excess of around 500 quid, the price hits a mind blowing 10k :(. I didn't think the cars were that far of in terms of performance, but maybe you're talking about the 4wd?

That insurance is crazy!

I wouild highly recommend the Guilietta. Amazing car to drive :)

Yeah the alfa is a really nice car. Does anyone have anything to say about the peugeot 508 2.2hdi?

Why are you looking to spend so much on what are very ordinary cars which in a few years will be available for much much less money (A5 excluded)?

Have to say my man Fox has nailed it.

Evo liked it

Against mainstream rivals, it's the best – in GT form at least. There's no real reason why it can't also be considered against an Audi A4 (it's better), a Mercedes C-class (on a par) or a BMW 3-series (roomier, as good at perceived quality, not quite as driver-enthusing but in with a shout).

The cabin is lovely. Discreet design, beautifully precise and unpretentiously sophisticated-looking instruments, German-rivalling switchgear fit, finish and precision, tasteful trim materials. The whole car looks and feels as premium as anything which the market perceives as being so. Brand-victims should feel quite threatened by the 508

Its a Peugeot, who in their right mind is going to buy that with their own, ie not company car money.

It's now a Passat, rather than a Laguna, rival but I still echo this sentiment.
Not with your own money!

You know many years ago i had this mad idea, when we were still giving ourself a company car i thought **** it i'l have a break from a Merc and buy a Renault Vel Satis, top of the range what a great car for about a week, then it was the tyre sensors, then the windows, then the wipers then the tyres again, then i got banned from Renault West London.

You know i paid the lease on that **** box fro 2 years it never turned a wheel, never again the French aint learned yet.
