Why are there no TN panel 2560x1440 displays?

If I had the money I would make one and sell it for 250-300 quid. Everyone would buy one and I would be rich. Why is it only IPS panels are doing that many pixels?

That is wishful thinking considering most 1920 x 1080 TN panel monitors tend to go for around that price in the UK. :p I would expect such a monitor to retail for at least £450 if not more. This brings it in line with a lot of 16:10 24 inch IPS monitors, some of the 27" Hazros and perhaps some upcoming 27" 120Hz monitors. All of these have a healthy but in many cases distinctive market. And herein lies the problem - it's just too much for most people to pay for that kind of technology and would only appeal to a minority. If it made marketing sense I assure you it would have been done already.

Absolutely - has anybody tried running Arma 2 at that resolution with a bit of the eyecandy turned on? ;)

There's also the problem that the bigger the screen, the more pronounced TN's shortcomings become.

With a small screen, the limited viewing angles are acceptable. Even a 24" TN panel is pushing it a little bit, unless you are dead centre you'll have unnaceptable shifts.

That's very restrained of you. Even if dead centre you see considerable shift across a 24" TN panel. This forum contains a lot of 'solid' blue that shows this shift (primarily in brightness for this colour) quite nicely.

It's been so long since I've had a TN panel that I must have blocked it from my memory!

I'm quite lucky, 24" IPS at home (HP), and 24" IPS at work (Dell).

Yes!

I just replaced my 22" 1920 x 1080 with the U2711

Running the built in ArmA2OA benchmark, with all settings maxed out it dropped from about 45 fps on the 22" to about 32 on the Dell (2 x GTX580 SLI).

What about the view distance and AA settings? And evil Chernarus which is perhaps more graphically taxing. I heard that can bring two 580s to their knees at such a resolution. Haven't tried it myself though as I have a lesser AMD setup currently.

I haven't tries that as yet.

I have always left the view distance as the standard value; just crank everything else up.

Sadly, the monitor arrived on Monday and I have a friend visiting frmo the US for 2 weeks, so haven't really had chance to really give the monitor a good going over.

Very impressed so far mind you!

Will be giving Chernarus a try when my visitor has gone, as will no doubt need to tone the settings down a wee bit!
