Do you talk to the person next to you on the plane?

I hate the people who take your window seat, even though you clearly have the window seat ticket, needless to say I stupidly didn't speak up.

I would make a scene if that happened, loud enough for everyone else to hear so they can start the tutting!

My worst experience was sitting next to a nervous flyer! I actually had to hold some lady's hand while we took off/landed and every time there was the slightest bit of turbulence she'd get all freaked out! Thank god it was only a 1:30 hour flight!

There was a girl like that sitting a seat in front of me on my last flight. She was sat one side of the aisle with her boyfriend on the other, holding hands across it. Every time something new happened she freaked out. When we came in to land the landing gears began to descend and made a horrendous noise which sent her into another mild panic shouting "What's that? What's that?" by this point I was feeling a little bored from the flight and an evil-streak took over (I blame OcUK) and I replied "It's the sound of death. We're all gonna die! ARRRRGH!"

Then we landed safely.

Am I a bad person?

If their fit yes.

Mhm.. my last worse flight was to Vancouver (11 hours) next to this polish guy who wore a very large furry coat and never took it off (even thou it was not cold/needed on the air plane), this annoyed me the most because the coat was really big, I was stuck in the middle and he insisted in ocuppying his space and my space with his arms(he was kinda fat + big coat), then he fell asleep and pretty much leaned on me... oh and he also kept trying to talk to me and my girlfriend... in Polish, we politely said many times we can't understand but he still kept trying to talk to us :D

Yes, however you are also hilarious! :D

Not usually, but then I don't normally speak to random people. I just have no real desire to find out about a random person, so I end up having nothing to talk about.

"So how about this flight, eh?"
"Yeah, it's a long one."
"Yep..."
"...."
*puts headphones in for rest of flight*

Nah, but seriously, the only people I've ever sat next to is Mom with Husband and Kids, Mr. Businessman, or some French guy who kept asking for coffee and asking me if I liked coffee and who looked like he was so wired he was about to launch off the plane. x_x

yes, last time I was sat next to Antiguas main evening news reporter, it was quite surreal turning the TV on and seeing the person we had sat next to on the plane :p

Few times. Last time a guy around my age sat down next to me, introduced himself with a handshake and started chatting away. Was a singer that works all around cruise ships and he was flying out to Miami to join a ship there. Pleasant enough fella.

Then I had an old South African gal that was really nice and showed me pics of her and her son's holiday all around the Med, chatted for a few hours and went to sleep.

All and all, I've only had pleasant experiences on planes, bar irritating little child rats causing a racket for hours on end while the dumb parents just sit there, trying to look even dumber by ignoring the fact that their little devil is making the flight unpleasant for everyone.

Lastly, I've only had to chase someone out of my seat once. I booked and paid extra for the emergency exit since I'm 6'3 and it was a 13 hour flight. Rolled onto the plane to find some trashy family setting up camp on the emergency exit seats. Not any of them had tickets to sit there. I went straight over and politely asked the person sitting on my seat to move. 'But I want to sit with my family', Mate, I literally don't care if you had to spend the flight holding onto the wing, pack up your sob stories, stop talking to me and p*** off out my seat. Air hostess removed them all and chased them to their proper seats. Bunch of morons.

I might occasionally talk a little bit at the start of a flight, but usually the conversation just peters out and I doze off or read a book for the rest of the flight. School trips etc are different as then I usually know the person I'm next to so can talk a bit more, but stranger-wise there just doesn't seem to be much to say, but I would be perfectly happy chatting to some randomer if it felt like the conversation was interesting both of us...

I was extremely lucky on a Bolivia-->Miami flight to be sitting where I was - half of my group was near some big smelly Bolivian mother whose children literally climbed over all the surrounding seats and passengers, and smelt of wee. I was happy to be surrounded by boring sleeping people :).

No, I want to watch the films, be fed and have someone bring me drinks.

Long haul flights are probably the closest I will ever get to having a servant!

I must admit I get a peverse pleasure watching the person in front trying to put their seat back. Being tall my knees make this impossible yet I won't inform them of this and instead watch them struggle.
