I can't use the stupid search function as the "word length" is always too long so i thought i'd start a new thread. :o

When did you find out what you wanted to do career wise? Have you changed your mind a lot? Are you happy at the moment? Did school or college provide any guidance?

Discuss. :p

When someone gave me a job in it.

Not much help, but that's the only experience I can give you :D Sometimes these things just fall into place.

I did know that I wasn't keen on pursuing what I'd qualified in as a career, potentially - and I didn't have any guidance from any institutions - so I just worked to put myself in a position where I might get lucky.

You do make your own luck, for the most part, after all.

Agreed. Very few people I know started out with the express intention of doing what they currently do and none, I think, has a degree that has any relevance to what they do. It can just happen.

Obviously this is different for professions such as law, medicine etc.

At the end of second year of 6th form I decided I wanted to do engineering, but I couldn't decide between the disciplines. In the end I chose to study mechanical engineering, went with the flow and now have a bit of experience in the industry.
