Hello,

I'm new to the forum and i'm about to buy my first OCuk PC using the Configure your own PC option. I'm wondering if its worth the extra £40 to get the 1090T Hex core processor over the 965 Black edition. I've heard that nothing utilizes all six core's yet, whether thats entirely correct i'm not sure. All in all i'm looking for advice on what processor to choose. Any help would be appreciated.

If it was me i'd be going for the 1090T, 40 more for two more cores is a good deal IMO.

May i ask what your total system budget is? as depending on this, i may recommend a sandybridge build, as they arn't that much more expensive.

Nearly all of the games, if not all, that are out now dont utilize Hex core CPU's.

I would save the 40 quid and get the quad. Got it myself, works like a charm and overclocks really well.

I'm looking to spend around £550. Thats without a graphics card as i have an ATI Radeon 5750 to fit in. So far the specs are:
Zalman Z9 Plus Silent Gaming Case
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz Quad Core Processor
Stage 2: Overclock of CPU - 15% Overclock (Processor speed x1.15)
Xigmatek Dark Knight CPU Cooler
Gigabyte 880G Mainboard
Corsair XMS3 4GB 1600MHz CAS9 Memory Kit
Onboard VGA Selected (Zero Cost)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 32MB Cache - OEM (ST31000524AS)
OcUK 24x DVD-RW Black
OcUK 4GB USB Flash Pen - Ideal for backing up DATA
OnBoard Sound Card
OCZ StealthXstream 2 600W Power Supply
Fully Cable Managed
That comes to a total of £507.62

if your willing to build it your self you could get a K2500 with P67 and a decent CPU cooler and everything u need for about the same price as that system above, and their dead easy to OC

theirs even a build guide : http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18046396

its much simpler then you think and im sure the forum can help you out if u end up getting stuck, or feel like u need some help

Edit : if you so deciered to build your own system

I think i'm going to let OCuk build it for me as i'm not confident enough to have a go myself :S Would you say those specs are good for the price ?

fair enought, and yes they are pretty good specs for AM3, stick with the x4 personly becouse most games will only use 2-4 cores anyways

Well thanks for your help, I think i'm going to settle for the 965. Out of curiosity what graphics cards am i able to run with the 600W power supply ?

you should bealbe to run anything up to a GTX 570 i think

it has 2 PCIe power connectors so if you get a crosfire x compatable mobo you could drop on a 2nd hd 5750 later down the line
