HIS ATI Radeon HD 6970 compatibility

I have a Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P Motherboard and wanting to upgrade my 5750 to a 6970 I was curious to know if anyone knew if it is compatible.

Any PCI-E graphics card will work including the 6970.

You could buy a revision 1 6950 and flash it to a 6970.

i hope you order 2gb version of the 6950 to be flashed! cause the 1gb version can't be flashed

well it cant be flashed to 6970, so you will be losing out on performance.
What res do you game at?.

You have nothing to worry about when flashing your 6950 cause the 6950 has a switch on it as it has two bios, so if you did get it wrong you can switch it back to the 6950, is 100% safe.
There are loads on videos on the net on how to do it and it takes only 2mins to do.

if you want ring OcUK in the morning and cancel the order and place another order for this card
for £30 more you will notice the differents and you will be happy

yes it is as i have that mobo also and i run a 6970

It's only a small upgrade surely and with the HIS 6950 you get 3 games which include: FarCry2, MW2, and Shogun 2 which is worth 50 quid in itself, I personally don't want to touch it I know what I'm like

Thats really confirmed that I have made the right decision thanks, Its a minor difference like you say and I would miss out on the 3 games and its 30 pound more, all in all tho I'm just please I didn't buy the 6970 2GB Thanks a lot for your help

at your resolution the 1gb is the best choice and as you say the games are a good plus!

in any case I think you can get the extra shaders on those 1gb cards too.

they overclock pretty well in any case, I would be surprised if you can't get an extra 100-150 Mhz of that core by using MSI Afterburner...

Prob wont need to upgrade for quite a while and you can always xfire 6950's which is what i plan to do when i get my other 6950.
