Scariest place you have ever been?

Being in a stereotypical junkies flat, with people around me shooting up was pretty worrying. More tense than anything else but not a situation I would want to find myself in again.

Your mum's pants, etc.

Serious answer: on a plane that was about to land, but which then had to perform an emergency go-around (not sure of the technical term!) due to another plane taxiing onto our runway.

Went on The City Of The Dead tour late with few mates, definitely something wrong down there in the covenants prison, my friend had scratches on his arm the next day!!!!!!!

supposed to be the most haunted place in the world.

I've been to the catacombs in Palermo too. Didn't find them quite as creepy as you did, but it certainly was weird seeing all those dead bodies, especially the babies that were at the end of one corridor. Actually thought it was pretty cool as it was something so different!

EDIT: It didn't smell bad like you'd think either, was actually pretty ok, just like a damp cellar. I guess there's a lot of people moving through so it never gets that stale.

Stuck in Wakefield Prison fixing PC's when a full scale wing riot kicked off, got thrown in an empty cell by the screws and door locked for 5hrs until it all got sorted!

I was once in an area of Belfast like that, albeit only briefly (thankfully!). It just confused the hell out of me. Scraggly looking kids walking around the street with empty 500ml coke bottles with liquid mercury at the bottom of them?

Was there to visit a friend of a friend (and smoke a bowl ;)). Went into his terraced house, which looked like a squat more than anything despite being a family home, and went up to his bedroom which also looked like a squat. Filthy mattresses with no coverings on them and alarmingly, again, raw liquid mercury just rolling around the bed? Pretty unnerving just because of the completely alien circumstances.

My old Uni house basement, sometimes the power would trip and you then had to go into the basement to flick it back on. It was big, pitch black, full of old furniture and smelt bad. One time the power went off so i went to flick it back on. As i reached the power box my flatmate wearing a wolf mask jumped out behind the wardrobe and scared the hell out of me. I never went down there again.

I once got stuck upside down in a sleeping bag which sent me in a panic as a kid.
I thought i was a gonna :p

On a serious note, there is nothing at all fun about sliding into the back of a quarries Jaw crusher that has the a of 1foot by 3foot by 120cm deep to tighten the jaw plate bolts with a 16 pound sledge hammer with a short handle.
When you first slide in you get stuck at the chest between the 2 walls and stay there with your legs dangling until you can wiggle the rest of the way and drop in =/

That really makes the heart beat fast and needs a lot of slow breathing and control not to freak out. Always made sure i got the bolts as tight as possible as fast as possible and got out.
I hated that job!

Some creepy looking places in the thread!

For me, it was probably the catacombs in Austria.

Also, in before the Lysander with fake YouTube videos.

Stiff like this doesn't bother me at all. I find it interesting and would happily hang around for hours. I have been in bunkers, disused factories and train stations etc.

I generally get most scared when riding my £3000 mountain bike around.

I couldnt do that job, Thats pretty much my worst fear. Cannot stand tight spaces, Not a chance in hell I'd be doing that. Anything that requires you to breath in to fit, would just freak me the hell out

Completely unlit hill at 11PM in winter with very uneven pavements, just waiting for the next car to come past for that brief bit of light, hoping your phone's battery doesn't run out so that you can continue to enjoy the dim illumination of the screen for fear of tripping over an unseen pothole, seeing other passers by only by their lit cigarettes.

Liking the serious answers in this thread! Clipsey, what did you see at Waverly Hills?!

Supposedly 'shadow people', well we saw one, down the far end of a hall way, we clearly saw a 'shadow' move across the door way about 3 times, was about the size of a 8-10yr old maybe. Freaked us the **** out :p

If anyone has been to centre parks longleat and has cycled around a fair bit, there are a couple of hills that have signs saying that you can't cycle down them ( for good reasons as they are very steep).
I once decided to go down one without knowing how steep and how long it was , it was pretty steep and I managed to do something like ~30 -40 mph, perhaps higher.

I was crapping myself as a 12 year old and in these situations you dare not break as you would probably go over the handlebars or slide.

It was pretty fast for a 12 year old with not much experience.

haha I can imagine the situation.

When I was twelve I was riding such a rubbish bicycle. It was a second hand for about £10:p.

Once I rode it very fast and the front wheel just got jammed somehow. Next thing I know I fell in a somersault manner on the ground. Luckily it was park and I had a bald head at that time:p.
