Latitude & Longitude Q

Trying to find on a map where the coordinates below are, I went there the other day and a friend took these coordinates on his GPS 'phone but can't work it all out - they are :

latitude 53 degrees 01'16.01"N longitude 3 degrees 07'49.19"W

Best I've managed on Google maps is somewhere in the sea off Papua New Guinea.. Are these coordinates in a correct format? Any pointers?

Off the top of my head looking at those readings as you have them now would put you somewhere in the North sea :confused:

Sure you didn't mean -3° 07' 49.19" which would put you somewhere around the Welsh border approximately in line with Stoke.
 
It may well be -3° 07' 49.19" It was in Wales, & yes, probably around the border :)

Where would latitude 53 degrees 01'16.01"N longitude -3 degrees 07'49.19"W come out exactly?

Looking at your conversion, is 53 degrees 01'16.01"N longitude -3 degrees 07'49.19"W the same as 53° 01'16.01" -3° 07' 49.19" ?

EDIT - yes it is, those numbers worked directly into Google, excellent, THANKS
 
That link is actually far closer by the look of it Simulatorman, I was way off road.

53° 01'16.01" -3° 07' 49.19 in Google only pinpoints the actual tarmac road I left (maybe it finds the nearest road to the coordinates rather than the actual spot) but the resolution is lower in your link pic - is there any way to get your direct coordinates into Google maps?
 
Haha, no, but should have left something hidden there, it was in the middle of nowhere on the side of a mountain, bit steep to walk up though (lot steeper than it looks) and loose rocks everywhere.

The exact spot was here out of interest :
