Virgin Media begins testing 1.5Gb broadband - World's fastest.

“While the average home might not need these speeds quite yet, we certainly will"
When.....? I don't think I need to be able to download at 187.5MB/s and pay £500 a month to VM :p

yes.. first get 100Mb out to everyone and get upload speeds up to 100, play catch up. Then start doing ridiculous things :p

+1 I am stuck in between 2 exchanges which can give me 50Mb but because the one I am at has not been upgraded or anything I am sat at a poxy 8Mb :(

Very good! Im paying for a 10Mb service and getting almost 10Mb..

Don't know what these ppl are moaning about.. probably live out in the sticks.. :)

So the speeds are achieved via channel bonding - since IIRC the Co-Ax networks for TV are based on a shared access circuit (everyone on your street is connected to the same bit of copper) everything is going to be heavily contended. Some googling seems to indicate that there are around 100 8MHz 50Mb/s channels available. So your entire street (average 500 people per access circuit, maybe as high as 2000) is sharing 5Gb/s. Even if only 1% of subscribers are file sharers with 1.5Gb/s connections It'll rain on everyones parade.

Pointless, given the fact they cannot manage properly what traffic they give now to customers.

The fair usage policy is perfectly fine as it is right now (I'm on 30Mb) but what isn't perfectly OK is the damn SuperHub but they have a new BETA firmware you can opt in with so I will test that tonight...

I don't have a problem with FUP as I am on 50Mb and if I want to download massive files, then I do it at an unsociable hour or I use an SSL encrypted newsgroup server.

Never had a problem with mine?

Try playing/using XBOX Live with your connection during the P2P management times. Then come back and say it's fine. If you don't use Live, you are lucky.

Is it not the same as playing online PC games? I play them at various times without issue. I'm not lucky for not using it, I'm superior with my PC gaming ;)

Just because you're ok doesn't mean lots of others aren't having lots of trouble! VM are definitely not known for their customer service :/

Fair enough. Their customer service has been great for me too though :P

Dude... do you get serious lag spikes? It doesn't seem to affect the ps3 but my gf's brother was complaining to me that he was getting serious lag last night on his 360, like it would skip about every 4 seconds or something.

Is that the kind of problem you're get? He went out and I tried it later on and it seemed fine but I'm guessing its a wonderful inconsistent problem.

Don't waste your time with them. Getting a decent connection is hit and miss with Virgin Media, you just have to live in the right place. They won't even acknowledge there's a problem most of the time, even when it's dire.

I know what I'd tell them to do with their 1.5Gbps internet connection.
