Are gaming headsets worth it with an onboard soundcard?

I was thinking of getting

I figured I should get a pair because my new router makes my speakers beep and they're 7 years old anyway. Just wondering if I need a good soundcard to fully appreciate them.

I'd say yes. On-board audio is fine up to a point. If you were spending considerably more, then a sound card would be better.

I was thinking about just getting a cheap Asus Xonar but I'm worried about how to install it.

if you get the usb variation of the headset you are looking at then it will use it's own soundcard in the headset and not your onboard. Sound good too.

Really? Okie that's something to look into. Does anyone know if the external USB sound cards are any good because I would prefer that over opening up my PC but will it still use my headphone jack? And is the sound quality comparable?

Depends whether you are comparing to on-board audio, or a sound card. Also depends on the USB headset in question.

How do I know if my motherboard has a PCI-E or just a PCI? It's a Dell 0M017G and this place has plenty of pictures
