Newly Built PC won't boot?

Right, I fiddled with the cables, and I've got the PC to start up.

I put the the PCI-E 6 cables into one of the 5850's, however, it seems to only work when I put both of the cables in? (I've read on a few guides where only 1 cable needs to be put in to get the graphics card to work).

To power up the second card, because I didn't have any PCI-E 6 cables left from the PSU as both had to be inserted into the first 5850, I used the 6 pin cables that came out the 5850's box, attached them to some of the 4 pin PSU cables and this powered up the second card. However, after I'd done this, the monitor lost connection with the PC and went into power saving mode, and the screen blacked out. So, the monitor only works when one of the cards is in

Also the CD drive doesn't seem to be working, its plugged into the SATA port on the mobo, but it refuses to work.

Any ideas?

The GPU has two power connectors for a reason, if it could cope with just one then thats what it would come with.

THE PSU HAS MORE 6+2PIN PCI_E CABLES!!!!!! FIND THEM.

WHY HAVE YOU PLUGGED THE CD DRIVE INTO THE HARDDRIVE? IT NEEDS TO BE CONNECTED TO THE MOTHERBOARD!!!!

WHAT GUIDE HAVE YOU BEEN USING TO BUILD THIS? BECAUSE YOU SHOULD BURN IT.

Are the cards connected with a crossfire bridge? Have you tried the monitor plugged into both cards?

Do you have a molex cable in the CD drive? A cd drive needs both a power and a data (sata) cable.

I can see the cables that are coming out of the PSU, there is the 24 pin cable, the 8 pin cable, and the 2 6 pin cables, that are in the back of the first GPU. Then there is 1 double 4 pin cable (not too sure what this one is?). There is definitely not more than 2 6 pin cables, they even have PCI-E written on, and I am 100% sure that there are no more than 2...

THEY ARE 6+2pin, NOT 6PIN!!!

THE CONNECTOR PULLS APART, FROM 8PIN TO MAKE A 6PIN WITH THE EXTRA 2 DANGLING, ITS IN THE PSU BOX SOMEWHERE AS A MODULAR CABLE, HAVE YOU READ ANY INSTRUCTIONS?

I realise that, I just knew I plugged in 6 pins, so I called them 6 pin.

P.S. caps don't help anybody, they just make words harder to read.

The extra 6 pin cables for the graphics card should be in the box somewhere. Make sure to plug them into the right ports on the PSU, which will be explained in the PSU manual.

The DVD/CD drive needs a SATA data lead from the drive to the motherboard, and a power lead from the PSU.

Glad to see you've got it working (sort of). As per previous advice, try the two cards individually, and if both are OK, make sure Crossfire is ticked in the Catalyst Control Centre. Connect the cards up using 6 pin cables only, and forget about molex to 6 pin entirely.

If you realize it, then why are you using the adaptors? why you cant see the extra cables i dont understand.

Because, the first two 6+2 pin cables were already set up in the PSU by the PSU manufacturer, while I'm guessing the other two are laying about in a box somewhere and have to be fitted to the back of the CPU manually. Unfortunately it wasn't me that opened the CPU box, so I'm not entirely sure where everything is at the moment.
