What is it with rubbish TV?

Don't really watch it. When I had my flat, I didn't own one for about a year untill I got given a decent CRT TV + matching stand and DVD player so I couldn't really turn it down. I'd much sooner play games, listen to music or browse the internet.

I own a TV for the kids. I rarely watch it. I spend more time on the internet watching documentaries, youtube, listening to music, etc. I could live without my TV easily but not without the internet.

I gave up on normal TV ages ago, now I only watch about 1 hour of a series at the end of the day before bed, films on the weekend.

I've not watched tv since the days of 2mb broadband. Most series that I like get canned, ie. SGU as mentioned above. The only decent things on the BBC are news, Qi, and have I got news for you which I catch on iplayer. Everything else I aquire 'elsewhere'.

Traditional tv/satellite is just not relevant to my interests.

It makes me cringe when colleges mention what 'package' they are on and how much they pay for it, plus licence fee... each to their own I suppose, lol!

What annoys me about TV is the unrelenting focus on celebrities (from A list to Z list). Every program has to include them, or be presented by them, or have them endorse some product/brand.

because the average person is **** on tv.

watch a quiz or game show with just ordinary people as contestants and it's a bit meh and then watch the ones with comedians/tv people and they're more comfortable more able to use a script etc and there's much better back and forth.

over all the show is much better for it, it's like asking why do football teams insist on using footballers instead of basketball players.

Unfortunately most of the country is thick and a bit simple, which is why most people read tabloids and most people watch ITV.

Also being fed a diet of 'celebrity and reality' shows over the past 10 - 15 years hasn't helped ... bring back 'It's a knockout' :D.

Most the TV I watch is via on demand and saying that, its only usually BBC iplayer. I've NEVER used ITV's on demand feature online.. I swear overall ITV has nothing on it except daytime crap for simple folk..(no offence to anyone, i'm sure no one here is like that, after all we can install a graphics card).. I mean lorraine kelly, aaargh.

Even though the BBC may have gone down hill, it seems to still be miles ahead of ITV and all its spawn channels like ITV4 which constantly show the same things. I suppose ITV is the most celeb based channel out there.

As I said I mainly stick to on demand and other than that I use my PC/laptop to watch various things from various sources such as Mythbusters (Which I have to get online as I can't stand it on UK tv with the UK narrator), An Idiot abroad was alright too.. and I often watch The Gadget Show if its on at the time or I notice it while trying to find something to watch in moments of boredom on Virgins catch up feature.

But yeah tv's gone downhill even though theres so many channels.. I think it was said on the Ricky Gervais show or one of his old radio shows that theres so many channels therefore there is a high ratio of crap to good, like nearly anything can get on TV, where as before with so few channels it had to be good. Often the good stuff is few and far between and sometimes hidden!

I just watch most of the stuff I like on the internet now whether it'd be Iplayer, Veoh, Youtube or other methods.

I only watch the actual TV in the mornings with a cup of coffee before work, generally sick of adverts every 15 minutes which ruins it for decent shows.

This.

I only really watch tv to tune into sport when it happens to be on the BBC or ITV. I usually watch news in the morning before heading out but I get my tv fix from alternative and somewhat frowned upon sources ;)

I use mine solely for watching films on rental from Love Film now. I don't even have a proper aerial to receive a digital signal lol

If i want to watch anything, it's all online like iplayer or 4oD, anything else I just wait until its released on DVD/BD.

best thing i ever did was get rid of my tv everything i want to watch is online anyway and needless to say it's free of those damned adverts every 10 seconds.

i agree most stuff on tv is rubbish.

ITV in general is really crap? like you mention kerry cantona and katie price shows this stuff is a pile of **** , but whats worrying is that people must watch it otherwise it would not keep showing up on tv?

i also cant stand The only way is Essex!

I'm thinking about not renewing my TV licence in the summer now. The majority of my viewing is for US TV shows and blu-rays and anything else can be caught up on the various catchup services. My TV doesn't have a built in tuner either, it's external!
