Campaign against dazzling bi-xenons launched

But the Japs had a better idea it says on that site, fit ones you cant see.

Never had a problem with proper Xenons (projectors, etc.). Yes I've seen the odd pleb with a HID kit in their Saxo's reflector lights, but that's just them being 'tards.

Don't get why the hate is against bi-xenons though.... surely the only time the high-beam (the bi part) is on is when there's no other car's around!?

I think that the bi part is the dipped part which is the part which will dazzle you if the driver hits a pothole. Unlike than the main part, which the driver can switch off so as not to dazzle you, the driver has no control over the dipped.

So European DRLs are competing with the sun? Oooooookkkkkkk

In fairness, I think that they mean that they are very bright so as to be seen even during the day - aka competing with the sun. It is just not written very well.

The only car that ever dazzles me is the mk1 punto.
There is definitely something wrong with the factory fit of these lights or there is a common fault with them.

I think as someone said above the reported is an even bigger idiot than the Saxo HID mahoosive.

Oh right. You'll be pleased to know that my Saxo doesn't have HIDs or anything chavtastic in it! :D

Anyways what I find more of an issue than incorrectly fitted HIDs round here, as fortunately not many people are that dim, is people with their high-beams on and not dropping down to low-beams when there's other cars around! May only be halogens not HIDs but ****ing annoying. Mainly seems to be Grannys driving around with high-beams on all the time, whereas the HIDs in reflectors crew are normally Saxo/Corsa chavs.

That wasnt a dig, i just think its a bad idea putting those kits in normal headlights.

I had to ban my daughter from getting one for her 1 series.

I think they should change it to a campaign to ban pointless DRL, really what are they all about?

I for one would avoid cars that have them. They make you look like you're driving a ***** housing estate at Christmas!

How many Lux would you like to be the limit? Also this would be rather expensive to enforce at the roadside, no?

They seem be somewhere between £50 to £100 for a Lux meter and they would only need them in traffic cars. Obviously all MOT stations would need one too. It seems very workable, would just need a defined limit to be agreed. I fear I'd definitely fall foul of any limit if one was imposed, 55w HIDs are very bright, I sometimes wonder if they are too bright as when I turn them off I am unable to see anything until I eyes adjust.

hummmm - so this is people fitting the HID bulb to a reflector based headlight? Not people fitting HID bulbs to projector based headlights?

If so... I agree it's a f'in pain in the arse and I want to smash their face in, then they go one further an put them in fog and spot lamps

Agree 100%, most of the time it is dumb chavs "upgrading" their cars.

Also the BBC article and the campaigner haven't done their research when it comes to reflector and projector head lamps.

I have more problems with reflector based lighting systems than ANY projector lense based HID systems.

In-fact I have ZERO issues _ever_ with projection based headlights. The only issues are universally exhibited and not linked to HIDs directly (Poor road surface, numpties with highbeam, mis-aligned etc etc)

Modern projection HID headlights are rarely misaligned, incorporate self leveling and washer systems so quite why anyone would want to get rid of them is beyond me.

Nothing to do with light output. In the pitch black even the lowest of light outputs will cause adverse dazzling effects. Assuming the beam pattern is correct total light output is pretty much irrelevant.

I was gonna say.. I thought the only problem was the chavs that fit 1bn Light Rated HIDs.. isn't there a difference?? normal factory fitted Xenons don't cause problems? If this guy has a problem I think the guy who said that he needs his eyes testing after working at night so long...

Absolutely does my head in when you see these idiots driving around with some clearly dangerous and poorly-fitted lights. Hopefully he gets somewhere, thought with his catchphrase of 'Lightmare' I'm not sure people will take him seriously.

The guy needs to get a life tbh

Personally, I don't understand how people can't see it as in issue. Do you have them fitted yourself? It is infuriating when you're driving in the dark in a poorly-lit area when someone comes the other way and blinds you to the point you can barely see the road ahead yourself.

Nobody is disputing that. It's not a OEM HID issue however.
