What is it with rubbish TV?

So nice now that you can record everything. I think the last time I watched something while it was actually was.. can't even remember.

I've heard that they are starting to make adverts now so that even if you fast forward trough it you still get the main points of the advert.

On my PVR I can skip forward 4 minutes with a single button press, this bypassed all the ads 99% of the time...

I rarely normal TV, I prefer to wait a few hours and watch the shows I like on iplayer/ITV player/4OD/Sky online or download them via torrents. Adverts are annoying as hell, so watching shows without having to watch 5 minutes of breaks is awesome..

All the shows I watch, I download and store on my computer & external HDD now, I have almost 800GB of TV shows alone and another 700GB in films.

As far as shows go, there are quite a few decent shows but the majority are American though. At the moment I watch:

Jean claude van damme behind closed doors
Curb your enthuiasm
Mr Sunshine
The Big Bang Theory
Parks & Recreation
The Office
Outsourced
The Ricky Gervais Show
The Walking Dead
Boardwalk Empire
Board to Death
Game of Thrones
Lots of documentaries on Military History or Discovery, aswell as the odd few on BBC

Ah the Walking Dead was great, I watched it before it finally came over here.. usually I can't stand American TV drama series whatever you call em.

I keep seeing that Van Damme programme on the guide and assumed it was a one off thing they keep repeating, is it any good then?

Can I just point out that downloading programs or watching the likes of iPlayer is still 'Watching TV'.
Probably 99% of the stuff I watch is downloaded but it is still TV.
Nobody is sitting on a higher horse here.
Only the people who never ever ever watch TV because there is never ever ever nothing good on can sit on a high horse even though they're sitting behind a computer screen or playing games cause they're so much brainier than us simple stupid people who watch TV.

You are right, however I know many people who sit in front of the TV for hours and hours.. I think the people who watch on PC via downloading or on demand services are more about watching tv on their terms and what they want.

I much prefer it this way, stuffs there when I want it and I don't have to fit my day around the box in the other room :D

D

But that's what videos and PVRs are for.
I had my first video machine in 1981 and I can remember workmates taking the pee saying 'Don't you watch enough TV?'
I told them I could now watch it on my terms.
However I still think there is zero difference between watching TV on a TV live, on a TV with PVR or on a PC with downloaded files and I'm proud that I do all 3 and I can sit here on my Shetland Pony knowing that all the non TV watchers are way cleverer than me.

ahhhhhhhhh Peter Andre The Next Chapter is advertised again for ITV2.

what is it with these people, how much coverage do they need. I blame Im a Celebrity get me out of here for bringing some of the has beens back to the public eye.

ITV2, it is not interesting, its tacky and cringeworthy.

worst thing is, like the title suggest, The Next Chapter, I assume its going to be dragged out even more and more

Fully agree mate - I haven't had any sort of TV plumbed into my house for over 6 years..... the only think I sometimes miss is occasional sport, mainly the rugby.

Other than that - there's not a single day I ever think I could do with sitting down and flicking through some channels.

My girlfriend moved in not so long ago and we had a laugh about her 'dreading' no TV.

A few months in and she hasn't missed any of it - even though I've offered for us to get it if she really wanted.

Yes there is an awful lot of crap out there but at least it is avoidable. On my fav channel list are ones like Discovery, Nat Geo, Sky Arts 1 n 2 and BBC News channel (gotta cut down on that One, I'm getting screen burn off the logo) So yes, I'm a doc n fact program geek, I like stuff like mythbusters (tho they do dumb down too much) n Deadliest catch etc.
Other channels I do dip a toe into, F1 on BBC etc but what is really annoying me is Sky Atlantic. There are some bloody good programes on ther but I can't get it cos I have virgin. I really wish Sky n Virgin would stop behaving like wee kids and come to some sort of agreement sometimes. It's us customers that lose out all the time. Bairns.

Oh and don't even mention STV, cheap cooncil tv :(

Don't watch TV anymore because it's **** and digital TV requires a mammoth of an Aerial to operate properly and efficiently. Everything I need I either own on DVD or can view at my leisure online via iplayer etc.

whats the deal with freddy flintoff, what a **** he has to show on the TV.

ahhhhh get these freaks off and put something decent on for once!!
