Modded Corsair H70 as a GPU Cooler

Our very own Jake Crimmins has modded an H70 and fitted it to an Nvidia GeForce 480 GTX replacing the stock GPU cooler. Read about the astonishing results HERE. :cool:

Makes an interesting read, however noisest part of my rig is the h70 fans! soon to be replaced im thinking.

apprently it was more quite then the H70 cooling the CPU :O

damn, somebody beat me to it... i made that idea in my dreams!

but its not like i have to cash to bealbe to afford a gtx480 and a H70

but one question... do you think that the 480 was single slot after the H70 GPU mod?

You'd also need to get one without 2 slot high outputs (unless you're ok cutting those off).

nothing wrong with a bit of DIY for your PC.

the H70 pump looks like it would push another card to me witch is why i asked

his finished product looks nice tho

Not a chance. My block keeps my 480 as a double slot card and the H70 must be bigger than my block as it has the pump built into the block. More likely to be triple slot.

Interesting. Why don't Corsair/CoolIT/Antec do a closed loop prebuilt GPU cooler?

CoolIT do have one but it was pretty expensive.

Looks like an excellent mod with great results.

I guess in time 3rd party GPU water coolers will appear somewhere along the line...

Sounds like all Corsair need to do is release a new 'GPU bracket' as an add on.

As the current block/pump/rad setup seem to be perfectly suited to GPU cooling as well as CPU!

I really like this, only let down is that when you start buying individual loops for everything you start edging into self built cost territory.

I'm lookingto buy a closed loop for my CPU, I'd love to think that something similar might be available for my 6870 shortly.

Great mod.

Surely it would be better to have a proper fan attached than those awful blower fan to cool the RAM and VRM.

I don't think CoolIT have made interposter plates available for the latest batch of graphics cards so anyone who bought the system will probably now be pretty miffed.

if you was to do 3 or 4 way sli i guess you could just put a standard 120/140mm fan at low RPM for cooling?
