**Official Portal 2 Spoiler Thread** - SPOILERS AHOOY

Saw the angled panel and thought right I'll teleport off the tower opposite keep place portals as I fall to build up momentum and then get up....was so so so close so kept trying :p

Got frustrated then realised I could use the two larger towers by spraying the white stuff ;) onto it, then from that the opposite and so on and so forth to get enough height.

So glad I'm not the only one that did that!

lol I did exactly the same thing, kept getting frustrated when the angled panel would throw me straight up instead of forward. :D

I thought she was Alyx and Gordon's daughter. But that's only a guess, aswell. Seems strange to have her surname redacted if it wasn't Freeman. :D

I'd like to say its not... but there is no evidence to support anything or disprove anything atm. Events of Half Life 2 are certainly ahead of Portal given the Borealis is still at Aperture Science but that doesn't mean to say time travel won't happen somehow ><

Portal happens around the time of Half-Life (during the Portal Storms).

Portal 2 happens around 200 years after Half-Life 2.

That doesn't make any sense... source?

Portal 1 you find slides etc that show the year, and comparisons to Black Mesa, also GlaDOS metions:

"Are you trying to escape? Things have changed since the last time you left the building. What's going on out will make you wish you were back in here. I have an infinite capacity for knowledge, and even I'm not sure what is going on outside. All I know is I'm the only thing standing between us and them. Well, I was. Unless you have a plan for building some supercomputer parts in a big hurry, this place isn't going to be safe much longer."

The Portal Storms and the Combine Invasion happen shortly after the end of HL1.

HL2 takes place about 16 years after the Portal Storms.

In Portal 2 you have been in suspended animation since the events at the end of Portal 1, then you are put back in stasis, when you wake up again the voice informs you that you have been in stasis for 9-9-9-9-9- etc etc..

I think Portal happened nearer the time of Half Life 2. GLaDOS mentions there would be a fat chance of Black Mesa helping Chell in her song, indicating it was already destroyed. Also she hints at conditions on the surface being dangerous, suggesting the combine invasion was in full swing.

Yeah it happens after the end of HL1, between the Portal Storms, and HL2.

:)

It does imply it but its never specifically stated as being after Half Life.

Also i took the 9-9-9-9 thing to be a broken announcement. That timeline says its definitely decades not centuries as paper/wood etc would've rotted but at this point it could be absolutely anything.

I believe Valve mentioned it themselves however I don't have a source. A timeline can be found here.

Most of what relates to Portal is very skeptical.

.

i dunno it seems long enough that metal and concrete of decayed and been damaged by plants.

Also it seems paper in the HL universe is made of super strength stuff, as in the old aperture spheres there are posters and bits of paper from the 60's :p

even if it's only the hl time they should have been ruined by now.

how do you work this out? I didn't get that from the game at all?!

  • Caroline and Cave Johnson = Husband and Wife
  • GLaDOS recognises the 2 above when you find the hidden picture for the achievement
  • When Cave was dying he put Carolines personality into an A.I, which was the program GLaDOS
  • There are 2 others with the same surname as you in the facility, a man and a woman

You missed all of those?

[*]There are 2 others with the same surname as you in the facility, a man and a woman

Yes its possible that the 2 people she is referring to as being in cryo-stasis are Cave and Caroline Johnson but equally as possible she's taking the ****. Considering GLaDOS also refers to you being abandoned on a doorstep you really have to take everything with a pinch of salt...

Her recognition of Caves voice and them in the picture is down to her having some of Carolines personality (before she deletes it). It could be the long period of 'reflection' she has while you're doing the test chambers is because she realises who you are or any number of reasons.

Theres the slight confusion between GLaDOS saying its too hard to murder you when moments before she could've left you to float into space. And the returning of the companion cube at the very end.

There isn't any real evidence...

"Portal is after Half-Life 1 and before Half-Life 2. Without getting into it too much, Portal 2 is further down the line. … We tried to keep as light a touch about it as we did in Portal 1." - Erik Wolpaw (Writer for Valve).

There is another quote from Valve that talks about Portal 2 taking place 'hundreds of years' after HL2. Just trying to find it.

Also in game Wheatly talks about how he's been trying to escape for 200 years...
