You can open up a lot more control over what the individual buttons do, in case the program doesn't do it for you. Aside from that, there's probably no point.
I've got a simple logitech mouse but I have the software installed so I can make the middle buttom/wheel the middle button and not just a stupid scroll.
I've got a deathadder and have never once changed anything in the drivers accept the refresh rate and I'm not even sure that makes a difference tbh.
The only thing else to customize is to change what the buttons actually do (which you will never realisticly use unless for a one off for something). Sure you can add acceleration to your mouse but why on earth would you do that either?
