Hi all

It's the start of that time of year again, when we're plagued with these little things in the house. Our house backs on to fields and we usually have these all over the place.

Is this a Midge?

What is the best way to stop these? We're having to kill 20-30 of these a night before going to bed. I was looking at something like this:-

We usually have the back door open when cooking in the kitchen when the warm weather appears, this is the main way they get into the house. But there are the usual windows as well which are sometimes open so we can't stop them all. Would the above be any good?

I was looking at regular fly killers but they seem to be aimed more for regular fruit flies and the likes; not midges.

Thanks for any advice! :)

looks like an overclocker fly, when threatened it may emit a strange frequency almost like a squeeling graphics card as it overclocks its itself in an attempt to gain moar powah.

it is almost totally harmless apart from on ocassion is has been known to eat testicle

Citronella candles may help to keep them away but the best solution is, of course, to not taste very good to them - unfortunately I can't reveal the secret of how to ensure they don't find you an appetising snack.

It could be a midge in that there's no specific definition of what a midge is but you'll only find proper midges in Scotland, since you're in Newcastle it's either not a midge or perhaps you've been lucky enough to catch some tourists on their annual vacation...
