JoWood Closing

It looks like insolvent Austrian videogames publisher JoWooD will not be emerging from its financial woes, according to German news site boerse-express. A translation of their report indicates that negotiations with potential investors have collapsed, and it looks like they will be closing up shop. Thanks GameInformer.

Actually i'm glad as they pretty much ruined any new game they developed, not sure what happened to JoWood as i used to look forward to their releases.

Didnt they publish the gothic games?

Does this mean we might not see any more gothic games?

Eh?

JoWood had very little to do with either of those, they published Painkiller 3 and released an EU retail box of Torchlight.

Torchlight 2 is being developed by Runic Games and published by Perfect World, so yes, we will see it.

Gothic 1 and Gothic 2 were developed by Piranha Bytes and published by Jowood they were and still are great games. Gothic 3 was developed by the same company but Jowood had more of a say in it's development and thus the trend down hill started. Gothic 3 expansion was dire and should never have been sold in it's state. Gothic 4 was developed by Jowood and it was awful, yes some like it but the majority don't!. It was so bad that Jowood did an expansion and took the Gothic 4 name out

Piranha Bytes gave the rights for Gothic over to Jowood ONLY for a certain period of time, now the name has been given back to PB. After Risen II they are going to do another gothic.

Windows retail box version was released in the U.S. in January 2010 by Encore, Inc,and JoWood Entertainment published a retail box in Europe in April 2010

Only the EU retail box was related to jowood

Torchlight 2 will have nothing to do with Jowood, especially now anyway lol

I think the only game I played of theirs was Chaser. And that was astronomically dire.

Jowood made Gothic crap. They were a dire publisher and pretty much ruined every game they published.

I'm actually glad to see them gone.

Tough for the employees that maybe had no other options but I have no sympathy for jowwod management itself. They were an awful company. Good riddance.

Only games I really liked that they published was the Spellforce series. But credit there goes to the devs (Phenomic). However, I think they got bought out by EA or someone big so not expecting anything good from them now.

Good to see them gone. Waste of space. I remember when they got given a load of money to make a Stargate game - they made a little concept art and then nothing happened.

Yeah, wouldn't wish them to lose their job, but good riddance as far as gaming is concerned. Haven't played Spellforce, just judging based on the latter Gothics.

they were crap, just look how bad Painkiller Resurrection was, ok they were only the Publishers, but they were still responsible for releasing an amateurish buggy gamer's mod, that i was stupid enough to buy :mad:

the latest Painkiller is a pile of junk too !

painkiller is the biggest flop of all time, the first game was great, but the 2nd game needed a big budget upgrade, but all we got was a fan's modded game.

Because Painkiller has the best weapons of any FPS.... and also great maps too.. upgrade Painkiller to Crysis standards and you'd have one of the best games around
