Vacuums - Dyson, or Miele?

The GF's mum has a Dyson DC24. its smaller than the full size Dysons but its lightweight (about 5 kg) and not at all cumbersome imo. it's a great little hoover.

Had a few dysons over the years and I think they're great. They don't get clooged up, just empty and carry on. Other bagless hoovers I find need their filters cleaning out regularly.

sebo are worth a look also just as good if not better than Dyson/Miele. the Sebo K3VULCANO is excellent

Dyson - had to clean filters every time it was used. Died after 14 months.

Miele - 5 years so far. Never missed a beat.

You do know Dyson come with a free 5 year warranty, right? This was a recent-ish thing though, however all Dyson vacuums came with a 2 year warranty before that so you could have easily got it fixed for nothing.

That's another thing worth mentioning, Miele vacuums only come with a 1 year warranty - I'm not saying they will break in month 13 but it's worth considering in the long run.

Dyson's are AWFUL, I know so many people who have had their Dyson's fail, sure they get fixed, often in warranty, often not. THe problem is they have awful, really awful power. Their adverts are hilarious, the line showing constant suction all the way through, and the "worse" brands having massively more suction power till half full, then worse suction till right before they are completely full. The part you need to focus on is, normal vacuums are just much more powerful.

WE had a Dyson, it was convenient, easy to empty, but we got bored of it after years, got Miele, its not and day. The Miele is MUCH quieter, much higher quality, picks up FAR more stuff, but is more expensive to run in terms of bags. The only thing about the Miele is it will say its full but you can keep on going and see it working very effectively for miles after that, other than ignoring when it tells you to change bags, its far superior to Dysons.

It's strange that I pretty much said exactly the opposite of you - my mothers Miele is very loud and starts to loose suction when the bag gets half full onwards whereas my Dyson is quieter and keeps the same suction until the dust collector is 90% full. When they are both empty they have around the same level of suction - maybe it's the models of each we have used?

Gotta love the Dyson owners vs Miele owners rage - I'm firmly sitting on the fence having used both, I'd be happy with either and I think the OP can't go wrong getting either brand :)

I've had Dyson's for the past 10 years or so. The latest incarnation is about 2 years old and recently decided to go dead. A quick phone call to the Dyson helpdesk and 2 days later a Dyson engineer turned up, replaced the main motor in it and presto, working vac again.

The 5 year warranty is very good.

You'll get good and bad models in both ranges, which won't help, but I've had 3 different Dysons from recollection and frankly none of them have been great, ok, and 2 of them break down fairly frequently. THe miele its hard to say as we've only had that for, 18 months maybe.

THe miele is also, well it can be loud, but has a whole range of different settings, and quiet setting with an empty bag is more powerful than our dyson, the louder settings or certain attachments(which are louder than others) and the suction over the dyson is a joke.

Its the kind of thing where with the same attachment sometimes you get something stuck you didn't want to hoover up, the Dyson I just shake the hose a bit and it will likely fall off, the Miele grips stuff so powerfully I have to turn it off completely.

In mentioning the graphs in adverts I'm actually more thinking YEARS ago when Dyson started to get big in the UK, I just remember these awful adverts that basically said, buy any other hoover, empty it more frequently and it will blow a Dyson away, which is a ludicrous thing to show on adverts.

Yet everyone loved Dysons because they didn't drop suction , despite Dyson themselves freely admitting they had low suction to begin with.

I was going to get a Henry but then I noticed it uses bags, cba with buying bags. Are there any decent small vaccums like a Henry that are bagless and have a hepa filter?

Dyson, BUT its not as good since we have had oak wood floor put down. Not sure there are many hoovers that are god on wood floors... just seems to blow the dust around sideways.

We got the animal one btw.

i sometimes sell vacuums to builders and have been relaibly informed that a numatic hoover is exactly the same as a henry but in a different casing but 2/3rds the price.

this is from the supplier i was told this.
