Currently I am paying 42 quid a month for Southern water in direct debit. I live in a two bedroom flat and there are two of us here who both work full time. Does this seem a bit a high?

I thought the water bill was included with the council tax? Don't commercial properties get charged for water usage based on there rateable value?

Council tax is different, not sure about commerical billing

I always thought the water bill was included in the council tax that you pay. When i owned a business up until 2008, i paid commercial water usage, it was like 400 every three months, we hardly used water. It was based on the rateable value though so we never had a choice.

The new system was or is supposed bill you for the water that is actually used and not based on the properties rateable value set by the council.

I would find out from you landlord or something he/she can tell you rightfully.

I believe they have a separate water bill in England, unlike up here where its lumped in with the council tax.

Seems a little bit higher than usual, but it depends entirely on where you live.

I've read that water companies in the south of England are generally hiking prices by very unreasonable amounts when compared to the rest of the country

BBC covered this recently.

sounds spot on, for a couple of people water meter is best, for a family who isnt anal about usage, flat rate is often better. Also paying 42 for two people.
