Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

They just updated on twitter that there was no new info on when it was going to be up again. Oh well.

Wouldn't hurt with some solid information of what really is wrong.

Really sucks. What a joke Sony is. They must have had some kind of Disaster Recovery plan. I know they have millions of customers but for the size of the company Sony is, for it to be down for over 30 hours now, it's completely shocking.

Luckily Portal 2 Single Player has kept me entertained. And the X360.

It still will be this time tomorrow. And the day after. :D

when it comes to stuff like this, im pretty sure they would have people working on it over the weekend.

theres literally millions of pounds at stake and thousands of jobs, maybe even billions at stake, playstation had kept sony alive these past few years, without it they could potentially fold.

Folks elsewhere seem to think Sony are quickly (or not) implementing new authentication code and accompanying firmware which we'll all have to download when it comes back.

otherwise, they would make new firmware and upload it onto servers, not put servers down whilst making the software.

No, the servers were hacked and could be hacked again if they went up. So they are keeping them down whilst the new code is implemented. Who knows. It's all conspiracy theorists at work. I love it! Others think they are restoring lost data from backups - no way of speeding that up. Which is why Sony said it'd take a day or two.

who would possess the hacking knowledge to bring down their servers? and why would they do it?

sound a bit too much hollywood to me, its probably some sort of update thats went wrong, or their servers crashed and they are backing them up.

Well I hope it won't be too long.

The smugness of Xbox fanboys on some gaming sites is becoming too much :(

Maybe they don't realise that the PS3 actually has decent offline exclusives, unlike the 360.

(Currently enjoying COD here)

Pffft. I tried playing earlier and the connection was terrible for me. You know when you look at that little map that shows all the people playing CoD? And there's always that little boat off the sea of South Africa? Well yeah, he must have been hosting for me this evening. :p

was playing crackdown 2 on my bro's 360 and on the main menu it has a map of all the people online or have played that day with a little bright dot on the location. theres a little island to the left of the americas well into the ocean that had 2 dots on it, and the island was tiny, im assuming both these guys were friends and were playing together, possible in the same house, the island looked that small.

there isnt a single dot in all of africa or india or australia or china, yet 2 dots in japan and 2 in new zealand.

i think there was like 1 dot in all of asia. mind you crackdown 2 is one of those games where after you complete it, you never look at it again.

in fact it got me thinking, how does such a small island like that have access to the internet? satellite? must be expensive?
