Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

Apparently it's hackers,

Update from Sony here,

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/22/update-on-playstation-network-qriocity-services/

"An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share."

The FBI Has Issued 40 Arrest Warrants For Anonymous Members (Hacker Group)

http://www.gamesthirst.com/2011/04/22/the-fbi-has-issued-40-arrest-warrants-for-anonymous-members/

"We have been bombarded with story after story about anonymous attacking Sony, and gaining as much personal information as they can on people apart of the Sony case, including the judge. This has caused the FBI to start looking into the case, and apparently they have seen enough. The FBI has officially issued 40 arrest warrants for members of Anonymous in American. Not only is the United States taking this case seriously, but the UK as well, who already has some of the members in custody."

Pretty serious stuff tbh, hopefully this means PSN will be back up soon.

Anonymous released a statement claiming it wasn't their attack. Also said that operation Sony was now over and they wouldst be attacking again. But as is very often common in there situations, i guess people will say all number of things to divert attention.

really dont get why people and bbc can even moan, its a free service not like you have paid anything for it.

plus its warm weather or least is were i am so go outside or if its not just play your single player part of the games?

If it was XBL which you have paid for then fair enough.

I work for a online gambling company and we do a free bingo game every night at 7pm.

It goes down maybe once a month so doesn't play through.

I've had 700 in one chat room swearing, shouting, threatening and asking for a refund (on a FREE game ) because it hasn't worked! They don't seem to understand that we are giving £200 a day in 1 game with no return on it. They think its their right to get it so it really doesn't surprise me that gamers, many of who are addicted, kick off about this.

People get angry about PSN being down (overly so, no doubt) because Sony have made it a selling point. You can't say how great your online service is, that it's free, and then expect everyone to not be annoyed when it doesn't work. I think more than anything, it's just frustrating that it's completely off, that there's no middle ground.

I'm not particularly bothered, as I've plenty to be going at single player if I wanted to play, but I really wanted to play Ultimate Team. But I can't, because it's entirely reliant on PSN.

People asking for compensation are a bit unrealistic though :p

/EDIT: and the complete lack of information from Sony, bar vague blog posts.

I don't think they've told people enough, personally. I think most people would appreciate a bit of honesty regarding the issues. If, by 'external intrusions' (or whatever they've said) they outright mean hackers I think people perhaps might be more sympathetic. Equally, if we were told the maintenance was to ensure it would be very difficult for it to happen again, people would be happier. /EDIT: whatever it is that is causing the issues.

As I said, I'm not one of the angry 'compo' mob of muppets, but I can see why people are annoyed.

It's times like these when you wish there wasn't game exclusivity. I'd saw my own leg off to play Killzone 3 over Xbox Live right now. :D

(Probably not actually.)
