Opinions on my First build?

Hey, i'm a little unsure about all this considering this is my first time building my own PC. i've changed some parts in the past so i know about changing parts etc but i'm just wondering if this is all compatible.
Some things i'll mention.
1. I wont be changing the 6990 because it's £100 cheaper than 590 and i'll be using a headset anyway, if there is a very good reason to change to the GTX 590 please note it below. Also the 6990 comes with 4 free games which is pretty awesome.
2. I'm going with the 2600k because i want this to last a good while before upgrading and i'll probably crossfire the 6990's in the future.

Anyway is all this compatible and is there anything else i should take note of?

Hmm i would but if you're using an SSD you can still use a normal hard drive aswell? i record HD videos so i need a lot of space atleast 500GB+
 
Well i'm not gonna be going crossfire for a long time, once my 6990 starts getting slow i will and by that time i'll probably buy a new PSU anyway. One 6990 is powerful enough at the moment for anything i need anyway ;)
 
2x XAI mice? 1 is bad enough, but TWO?! :eek:

Choices look good aside from that and the cooler. SB is 32nm so runs very cool - a cheaper fan such as the Gelid Tranquillo would perform more than adequately for much less. RAM would also foul the cooler :p

Look for some ram with low heatsinks - such as GeIL Value Plus of Corsair XMS3

Seagate Barraduda is cheaper and faster - that's a pint saved :D
 
If you check the Noctua RAM compatibility lists for the NH D14, G.Skill Ripjaws and RipjawsX are fine for clearance. Personally I would swap out the RAM you have now with the Ripjaws X or what Cookeh recommends above :)

i will second this. a 6990 in its overclocked setting uses 450W of power. put a second one in and thats 900W in graphics cards alone. a 1200W PSU is a neccessity for crossfiring these cards.

also, your motherboard only does dual crossfire at x8/x8. you will REALLY want a motherboard that can do x16/x16 crossfire with these cards. x8/x8 is a bottleneck for the 6970 (just), so you can imagine how much of a bottleneck it would be for a card thats (almost) twice as powerful.

why have you got two mice :confused:

do you need a DVD drive?

if you intend on using crossfire 6990's, this is the best i can recommend you. a lot of stuff i was looking for simply isnt being sold by OcUK:

if you remove the SSD and DVD drive, this only comes out at ~£15 more than your rig

problems:
- motherboard. nothing wrong with it, but this was the only one being sold by overclockers that does x16/x16 dual crossfire
- PSU. once again, its fine, but its the only good 1200W PSU i could find. there may be others around elsewhere
- keyboard + mouse. i know nothing about these, so i went for the ones you did
- cooler. not so hot on my high end coolers, but i know this one is good. the standard thermal material is actually very good on the corsair H50, so you might not want the extra (some people have had temperature increases from using a different material
 
Looks pretty good, but you'd be fine with the i5 2500K unless you really need the hyperthreading for video encoding etc.

I'd recommend trying the SteelSeries 7G for £20 more than the Logitech G110. I love my 7G/Ikari combo :D

I'm not going for a seagate because my brother got one and said they are terrible.
Also any suggestions for mouse? i heard XAI is good but now i'm thinking of changing :/

Okay i'm not even going to bother with Crossfire 6990 anymore, the motherboard is too expensive for me atm. I'll be using this PC for gaming and rendering HD quality videos in Sony Vegas and After Effects. Also i'll be using it for some 3d work in 3DSMax/Cinema 4d so i think the i7 is a good choice?

to be honest, crossfire 6950's will last you a loooooong time.

for what your doing, i think the i7 could come in handy.

lastly, tell your bro he knows nothing. seagate are great hard drive makers.
