The potential for stolen PSN ID's and CC details is a more worrying prospect than the service being offline for a few days.
Really can't understand the rage atm...are people seriously this worked up because they can't play games online for a few nights? It's obvious that Sony want the service back up and running as much as the public. However, what would be the point if they put it up two days ago and it went back down as they hadn't properly fixed the security flaw.
I think people are upset like me, because you buy the PS3 then £50 a game and enjoy playing online.. I play the ps3 to chill out and switch my mind off from work and stresses of life, I have been outside more in the sun but it's too hot for me! I like to play the PS3 with a beer and a huge ass fan on me lol
But they also sell it as free online gaming, they are Sony they should have some kind of a backup system for when things like this happen.. you may not pay to play online but it's part of the service... but things happen so I wont moan about it, just hope sony learns from this and creates a backup solution so there will be little to no downtime.
Totally agreed - if people think people like Anon have won the battle, then undoubtedly all of us will lose the war - companies will just stop putting any niche features into their next platform and attempt to lock them even tighter, which normally just frustrates the normal user...No. What sony really wish is that they hadnt bothered to give the option in the first place. If people hadnt tried to miss use it we wouldnt be in this situation.
there is no backup solution when people have hacked into your servers and gained access to everything. they could simply do the same to your backup.
the hackers didnt turn the servers off, sony did, to prevent further damage. they are now working on new security whilst it is down in order to stop further attacks.
But then if you see Sony giving those reassurances and then it goes down again in the future people will go mental and start referring to those same reassurances - Sony cant really win. Also if they are going to attempt to prosecute the less said the better for their case...I don't think they've told people enough, personally. I think most people would appreciate a bit of honesty regarding the issues. If, by 'external intrusions' (or whatever they've said) they outright mean hackers I think people perhaps might be more sympathetic. Equally, if we were told the maintenance was to ensure it would be very difficult for it to happen again, people would be happier. /EDIT: whatever it is that is causing the issues.
As I said, I'm not one of the angry 'compo' mob of muppets, but I can see why people are annoyed.
People that are raging are closet addicts - fed up of reading the same moan in several threads on here - some people just need to realise real life...Really can't understand the rage atm...are people seriously this worked up because they can't play games online for a few nights? The online reports only seem to mention "US" or "European" PSN being off. Is it worldwide or are the Japanese happily playing away?
