I have just installed a Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB GDDR5. My system is in my sig and it is all a max of 3/4 months old.

System was running fine until I upgraded the GPU. Every now & then the system just seems to die. The screen goes black and I see the message "no signal" on the monitor. I reboot and eventually all is well again for a while. Any ideas as to why this may be happening? All drivers are from a clean install & up to date etc. Any advice appreciated before I send the card back, thanks.

If it happens when gaming then it's most likely the PSU. Yours only has 20A on each of 2 +12V rails.

The Tagan tg500 isn't that great a psu from what I can see online. What ampages does it deliver? (should say on the side of the unit)

Edit - too late I see, question has already been answered :)

That PSU ought to be ennough. But looks like it is not.
Perhaps both the 6pin connectors are drawing power off a single rail.

How long have you had it? If possible try that 460 on someone else's computer with a similar wattage PSU. It could even be that the card is faulty and drawing too much current.

If you're getting a new one you'd probably want something like this:

But if possible first try to make sure it is in fact your PSU. Does it turn off during gaming or just randomly?

I had just run 3D Mark 11 and then started surfing their site for information. The 3D Mark programme had been closed and the only thing running was one explorer window.

3years, it would have degraded abit

also it's a 432W psu really for the 12v

Thanks Gareth, I bought the card from someone who had just received it from Gigabyte after he RMA'd his original, so it should be ok?

Can you suggest a decent replacement PSU, bearing in mind im not a gamer but like to use photoshop quite a bit.

It sounds too similar to the problem I had with my 470. That would just cause the display to cut out randomly as if the monitor was on standby (Not while in games, only when on desktop/surfing web etc). The system would keep running but I would get no picture back until I rebooted.

I would test the card in another system if possible.

Remeber this is your power supply, when it blows it will usually take your whole system with it.

I would never look at any cheapo products either. My suggestion would be one of the Corsair models, I have used them for years and have never had any issues.

What was the outcome with your 470?
