Girl bitten by Adder snake..

"We went up to the New Forest for a walk with some friends, we were literally walking back to the car when my daughter gave out a yelp.

LITERALLY WALKING

She literally lifted her leg off the the ground, standing on one leg, you can tell when your children are in pain and she was in absolute agony.

LITERALLY LIFTED HER LEG

Suprised it even made the news . . .

This is what you call a Snake Bite.

tbh thats necrosis TWO WEEKS AFTER THE BITE.
if you burnt your leg badly enough then left it two weeks you would end up with something like that.
the venom in the bite didn't cause that, waiting two weeks to treat the injury did!

this is the snake in question:

the wikipedia version of the image states that the injury was initially treated only with antibiotics - it's likely they didn't know it was a snake-bite.

I've heard that adders are usually fairly docile as long as you don't step on them - I've been within about 1m/50cm of one that was just lying in deep grass, didn't seem to take much notice of me though... Girl must just have been unlucky to startle it or something...

Oh, and:
This is actually news?

good answer cheers :)

No problems glad to help! 'Tis a thing I have had to study quite a bit about even though I hate the things.

Incidentally if you go to London Zoo they used to have a thing up there about a keeper who went out on the lash one night and came back to play with the cobras - needless to say he was not breathing when they found him ...

<3 snakes. I've kept hundreds and hundreds of them over the last 20 years, they're awesome. Adders won't do you any harm, just leave 'em be and try not to stand on them. ¬¬

To balance out all the scary legs falling off and such, here's one lucky beggar darn sarf who has a garden literally full of Grass Snakes. One of them even plays dead for the camera. :D
