semi-immobile and painfully bored

I had an operation on Tuesday. I'm in basically no pain at all, and I can get up and wander about pretty much as much as I want... slowlyish.

But I can't sit down properly. I can lean off to one side on the sofa, or the other side, or lay on my front, or stand up, but that's it.

Now I naively thought video games would carry me through three weeks of this, and I was sorely mistaken! I get achey on my side all the time so I get bored and wander off to... stand around in my house and walk around in circles.

What shall I do with myself? I have effectively no money. I get paid a couple of days before I go back to work, anyway, so until then, nowt. And once my girlfriend goes back to work I have two weeks to myself all day.

Help me occupy my mind! I'm going insane! What can I do that's either constructive or at least time-consuming... There must be something apart from Xbox.

Don't say fap. I worked that one out on my own.

Being an erotic fan-fiction writer.

You can even wander around whilst dictating your sordid fantasies to your girlfriend.

Let me suggest scotch and soda, after a dozen of those things will improve :)

Tumbling? Breakdancing? Oh, you were looking for things that didn't involve vigorous exercise. Sorry :D

How about going for a walk? Do you live near the sea or a river or something? I say this because the way people are talking it seems like the entire country apart from Edinburgh is getting some nice weather right now

I've had a couple but I haven't got much to drink and it's probably best. Apparently it should start hurting soon (it's been since Tuesday though) and I don't want to hit the cocodamol after I've been boozing :(

Did it before once by accident, didn't go well!

I might reinstall OSX on my Mac just because it'll take up time :/

Sad

Pretty much! I've had a pilonidal sinus excision... it's at the top of my bum crack basically. Where your back turns into your bum.

Trust me on this one, I had the same thing a couple of months ago. Lucky you being able to sit is all I can say! I had a thread here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18234639

What I did was watch the ENTIRE lot of Stargate Atlantis, 5 seasons of 22 45minute episodes. I was also insanely bored. I couldn't sit. I had to lie on my side the entire time. Sometimes, I lay on the other. I had mine healed within 3 weeks, and was walking down to the bus stop to go and get my dressings done. The packing of the wound was insanely painful for me! After that it was fine.

I'm afraid I might have this, though I've yet to seek medical advice. Is an operation the only solution? :(

GET TO THE DOCS / WALK IN CENTRE NOW!

You will probably need antibiotics. If you start to feel sick, or ill, DO NOT ignore it. You will end up with septicimia aka blood poisoning. It can kill you in a couple of days . . . . Seriously.

When I was stuck in bed with a broken leg all I had was my tv, and SNES and Mega Drive.

I had no Internet...and it was 10 weeks....you'll be fine! Lol

Go the doctors and they'll tell you, don't put it off because you don't want them to see your arse! I think a lot of people do that... first time mine flared up I just didn't care who saw it, over the last few years so many people have seen my arse I can't even remember!

I've had this for ages... maybe three years, finally had the surgery to remove it hopefully for good. I've had several periods off work for it, the flareups I get can be pretty brutal and leave me unable to do pretty much anything. Can't lie down properly or stand up or sit so I end up stuck in this weird position jus groaning to myself and waiting for it to... er.. well burst.

Mine's a closed excision... he offered me the choice and we talked about it and I decided to go with closed to avoid all the packing. I should be off for three weeks until I have my stitches out and then be good to go. With an open excision he reckoned back to work in a week or two but the entire process lasting a couple of months. He reckoned with mine, chance of recurrence pretty much the same between both procedures and said he personally had no preference for which, in my case, so I went with closed.

Oddly, I still can't feel it yet. I know there's a long-acting local anaesthetic, but it was Tuesday lunchtime I had it and it hasn't hurt at all yet. The suspense is killing me!
