Some of you may remember that back in December I made a rather controversial decision to trade in my S3 for a C2 VTS. I was hoping to rekindle the love of my old 106 GTi with something similar but much newer.
Wind forward 5 months and the C2 has gone. After trying my hardest to get on with it, I soon realised that I've outgrown my days of getting pleasure from revving the nuts off a car to get anywhere. The lack of torque made it really tiresome to drive and it really didn't like motorways; 70mph and above and the engine sounded like it was ready to pop..it really wasn't geared for motorway driving at all. It wasn't an issue a few months ago when I was driving 2 miles to work but now that I'm back at my parents and doing a 50 mile motorway commute each day, I couldn't bear it any longer.
A few weeks ago I was down at my old man's garage and he'd just taken this in part-ex:
...a 2006 Golf GT TDI 170. I've always loved the look of the mk5 Golf so I took it out for a drive and loved it; it's just effortlessly quick and a real pleasure to drive.
She's done 87k miles, which is a bit more than I would have liked but it drives like a car with a lot less miles on it. It's had just one owner and 95% of it's life has been spent on the motorway. The bodywork is in really good condition, not perfect but I wouldn't expect it with that mileage; a few little stone chips to the front bumper and a small ding on the tailgate are the only problems, the ding will be knocked out easily though.
She's quite well-specced with a 6 speed box, aircon, winter pack (heated seats, heated washer jets, headlamp washers), auto headlights, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and an armrest.
Dad wanted 6k which looked like a good price, and a hunt around for other similar cars confirmed that. I did some sums and all looked good so I put the C2 up for sale and to my amazement it sold within 10 days of it being advertised for the asking price of £4500.
Picked the Golf up last weekend loving every minute of it! Gave her a quick wash this evening but it was still quite sunny so sorry for the crap photos!
