I've been dutifully posting about these guys since I first saw them at their first live gig two years ago.

I simply love them, as in a sea of inane Macbook powered drivel, they stood up as a threesome and blew a whole rooms socks off at what was their first gig together. They have just got better every time I have seen them since.

They have toured with Skunk Anansie, New Model Army and supported Slash, they have 2 EPs out, both produced by some very big names indeed.

I post about them cos I don't want them to just fade away, as so many new rock outfits do.

Anyway, they have recently released their latest EP "Just a Ride". It's only got 4 tracks on it, but it represents a large shift in their sound from the first "Cast the First Stone". Can only assume a full album will follow shortly. They are playing Sonisphere this year (did Download last year).

I've been asked to describe them, all I can come up with is a cross between The Kings of Leon, The Foo Fighters and so much of that awesome music everyone still chooses from the 60s and 70s. But that doesn't quite describe it, they still sound more like The Virginmarys than anything else.

Can't find anything on Youtube from the new EP bar the usual terrible live recordings, and didn't want to do them a disservice by posting them, as their studio recordings are excellent. Both EPs are only a few quid on itunes, and both are on Spotify.

Have a listen, would love to hear peoples thoughts!

Found a few decent enough live recordings that at least give you the idea, as well as the final track from the EP.

I got the new EP a few weeks ago when it was released and it's simply amazing!

I can't wait to see them play at Sonisphere this year, it was strange seeing them play at Download last year but they pulled it off and as there last tours have proven they can definitely get a crowd going.

Thanks for the heads up. I really enjoyed Cast The First Stone and am listening to the new EP on Spotify now, pretty good so far.

What does that mean?

It means that most of the time, when I go to my local live band nights at Manchester's clubs, the majority of the bands that stand up all have two things in common:

1) Somebody stood at the front in testicle crushing pants, with hair over their eyes
2) Somebody stood at the back with a Macbook (it's ALWAYS a Macbook...) that is being used to generate both the beat, and more often than not a large proportion of the sounds being heard too.

The VMs walked on after about 6 of these in a row, setup a huge drum-kit mid-stage, with a huge gong, and proceeded to utterly blow away a room of people who before that had simply been swaying a bit (possibly alcohol related anyway... and many of whom had the same sterilisation trousers on), with an incredibly tight and energy filled performance and some really catchy tunes. Literally no-one in the place was stood still. All this without a Macbook doing the backing track...

Haven't seen it since, either in the same club or any of the other clubs I frequent.

That's not to say I haven't seen any good bands other than the VMs, far from it, but everyone could tell they were special. Been following them when I can ever since. I later found out that gig was their first in their current line-up, and they had literally newly formed with their bassist a few weeks before that.

Well, apologies for old thread revival, but i'm sure it's better for the forums databases to recycle :)

For anyone following these guys, they have just released their third (and final) EP before the full album comes out early next year, which will be all new material so they say.

Anyway, "Portrait of Red" is available on itunes and spotify now. It's a mix of old stuff (like the title track) re-recorded and new stuff, and as with the two EPs before it, I think its 6 tracks of brilliance.

They're really starting to stretch their legs now and produce songs that transcend the first EPs balls-out rock sound.

Few stand out tracks for me are Looking for Love:

and the final track, Keep Me on the Run (which is much much better on the EP recording):

Enjoy :)

I'm right down the front in the "Looking for love" video :D The crowd was crazy that night! I came home battered and bruised lol

Even though it's an old track I absolutely love "Thousand times" and i'm really glad to see it released on the new EP. The whole EP in general is fantastic although as cheesy as it is I kinda miss the ticking clock at the beginning of "Portrait Of Red" lol

I can't wait for the album to be released next year.
