hey everyone!

my mates upgrading and offering me a Asus rampage formula, core 2 quad q6600, a HIS 4870, 2x corsair XMS2 2GB and a freezer 7 pro for £200??

i already have a MSI 6950 and ill be unlocking it to 6970 soon if there is no bottleneck with this system?
what do you guys think??? is it a good deal?

many thanks!

good deal.

Just adding up the parts, CPU is about £70, Ram is £70 new, cooler is £20, gpu is £40 and the motherboard is a high end one and about £50 second hand.

Yeah considering it's all 2nd hand and possibly overclocked and run within an inch of it's life I'm not sure I would pay £200 for that.

For £200 you could buy a new Phenom II X4, capable motherboard for overclocking, and 4GB DDR3.

For around £250 you could buy a new sandybridge setup, minus the 4870 and heatsink

Intel Core i5-2300 2.80GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £147.98

Asus P8H61-M Intel H61 Chipset (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard **B3 REVISION** £64.99

yeahh i most likely will, ill talk to him later and see what he says as im desperate need of a new pc -.- look at my sig :D and does anyone know if its possible to crossfire the 6970 with 4870?

While it's a good deal, the q6600 is starting to show it's age now (i was running one till recently) and I'd rather put the £200 into a bigger upgrade personally.

The only reason it's a good deal is because DDR2 is quite expensive now compared to DDR3. It's still old tech.

Getting a sandy bridge would be far better bang for buck.

don't let everyone here dampen your enthusiasm its a good deal and i don't blame you for getting excited.

Been running my E8400 @ 3.6ghz with a h50, 4gb pc6400 and a 5770 for a couple years now, I think it's similar spec range to what you're being offered. I still don't feel the need to upgrade tbh, but that might be down to the Intel X25-M 160GB SSD I also have in here :)
