Anyone not watch the news?

I havent been in the army for over 2 years now.

Yeah I understand that, but you wanted to join then... I just can't understand how you could've been interested while being completely uninterested in the world outside of your own daily existence!

I currently get up at about 6:30 so as soon as I wake I watch a bit of BBC news before getting up and getting ready for work. During the day I'll browse the BBC news website just to keep an eye on what's going on.

Not so sure i think a few comments aimed at me are a bit unfair.
It's allmost as if some people think i wander round in some sort of dream state, cut off from the world completely and refusing to believe anything bad happens
If i make a conscious decision to take a step back from the onslaught of information that is tv does that somehow make me "not normal" or not as human as the next person.
Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but when its unfounded and the people presenting those opinions in public do not have all the information required to come to an informed decision is that even fair?

Watch the news? No?

But I do have a couple of Technology related RSS feeds on my second monitor all the time, read through BBC news website once a day and get a lot of other news from OCUK.

Watching the news though, is nothing but depressing.

I don't watch the news, i sometimes look up story's that i find interesting on the BBC website. If there is some breaking news that i want to hear about i might put on the BBC news channel but i find the news depressing.
But i don't watch live TV unless its sport.

The news is always depressing always doom and gloom.I mean who gives a **** what the royals etc do how does that impact on day to day lives of the average Joe truth is it doesn't.

I am hugely interested in current events. I'll usually check the news channels when having breakfast and check it at various times during the day. Everything thing from politics to current events to gaming and tech news.

I used to be a news junky, spent about 2-3 hours every morning reading different news (mostly economic stuff). Now I don't watch/read any news unless it's been posted on a forum. It's a waste of time IMO.

If you've ever seen "Newswipe" it's a great critique on what TV news has become lately.

I've just read the rest of the posts after the one I quoted, and I'm sorry to say this but people like you really get on my nerves :o

It's more when people believe that they are above it, and that anything that doesn't relate to them directly has no importance on their lives.

I'm curious now, do you know much/anything about history?

99.999999% of news stories don't really affect you in any significant way, so really it's just entertainment.

Even the Japan thing didn't affect me in any single way. If I didn't see it on TV I wouldn't know it had happened. Same for 9/11. There are full body scanners at airports when I fly every 3 or 4 years, that's about it.

I can't find anything on google news today that affects me. In fact the only story I can find that affects me is they raised the speed limit on some local roads.

Will flick over to one of the news channels if there is nothing else on but don't pay much credence to it, it's mostly just badly spun press releases aimed at 4 year olds. The 24h news cycle put paid to any actual Journalism.

Read the grauniad and telegraph websites from time to time, but they just go to show how stupid most journalists are (or maybe how stupid they think their readers are)

Alas, too many of their readers ARE stupid. Hence the dumbed down news and media in general. How else would you explain the popularity of the Sun and Daily Star? There are an awful lot of "Chantel from Essex who buy every copy of OK! And New! Etc who only care about what Victoria Beckham is wearing or who the human equivalent of the black widow (Katie Price) has lured into her web lately.
Same goes for guys who are only interEsted in what car Wayne Rooney has crashed or somesuch.

Personally I watch too much of the BBC news channel, I have a bit of screen burn of the BBC logo, wish they would move it sometimes. It's like TV in general, you gotta sift through the crap to find the good bits.

I don't watch the news but if something big happens I'll look it up on the web & watch the coverage, Can't remember the last time i bought a newspaper.

Excellent post, i fully agree.

Just watch the local news on occasion. Never go out of my way to watch it though. If it comes on I just listen to the headlines and change the channel.
