Case Fans

Hey gents, I come to you in a bit of a dilemma. This summer heat is totally grilling up my pc, my ambient is so bad i could basically cook an egg on top of my case. I'm totally not convinced my D-14 and the stock fans are doing a good job. I've been getting horrible temps of 34-45c idle and up to 70c on load, this is after downclocking it to stock due to the temps. My GPU is heating up like mad too, normally i only get under 70c with my GPU, now it goes up to 80ish. My coolermaster 690-ii advanced has stock fans in it at the moment. I was wondering if I could get some help/suggestions/advice with picking up suitable fans for my case(hoping to get some feedback/answers from people with similar case.) I really want to replace these since I don't even think the exhaust fans are bringing any heat out of my case. Also, I am complete novice with case fans, I am not sure how I am able to connect all these since my PSU can only support so many fans, or can I just directly connect some of the fans to the motherboard? First off, are you wanting the best cooling solution or best noise/cooling solution? I personally have 4 Fractals in mine, 3 140mms and 1 120mm. They are very quiet and do shift some air, but not as much as other fans would.

I have the same case as you, I have 3 akasa vipers ... 2 on the HS in push/pull, one asd rear exhaust all PWM, the 2 supplied 140's and the 120.

My room temp is 25*c and temps after 10 passes of IBT took my CPU tempo to 67, idle is 40.

I've also sealed off both side panel holes with black gaffer tape, seems to give better airflow through the case.

An overall draft, blowing air in the case upwards over the components that generate heat, from the front to the rear, always produces the best results in cooling and quietness. Inside your case needs to be like catching a chill from sitting in a drafty room because someone left a window slightly open.

Below is picture of my old set up. I now have the same set up but with better components. Even in this warm weather with a max overclock on my CPU and two graphic cards in crossfire, I can only reach 51 degrees at full load.

hey guys, i'm just hoping to get the heat out of the case. I dont mind the noise since I game with headphones on. Would it be better to switch the nh-d14 vertically instead of horizontally(i'd have to check first tho if it'll fit). Also in terms of best fans to use, what should I get? what kind of specifications(rpm, etc.) should i be looking at if i'm buying an exhaust/intake fans? thanks guys.

Depends on your mobo, but there is usually case fan headers (in numerous numbers, depending on mobo) that you can plug them into.

Depends on how many fan headers your mobo has. If there are not enough, Akasa do various fan cables that allow you to add more fans.

For example this one here uses a PSU molex connector for power and allows for three PWM fans to be connected and be controlled from a single PWM header.

Well I got a P67A-GD65 and it has 4 fan headers, so I'm assuming it would be enough for my future alterations. Although, I might buy one of these adapters just in case! With intake fans should I take ones that has uber RPMs to shift a lot of air in? With exhaust, I've no idea!! Anyway this is what I'm planning to do and also please dont mind my terrible cable management (first time builder!!)

Looknig at your case I was just wondering regarding your PSU unit placement. I have this same case but Ia have my PSU opposite way to yours with fan facing upwards, what difference does it make having your PSU unit placed the way u do?

Okay, I've decided to get 1 140mm and 3 120mm fans for my case. I'm about to get 3 Akasa vipers for the exhaust but I'm still skeptical what I should get for the 140mm intake.

Have a look at these:

Sharkoon Silent Eagle 800 140mm Fan - 3/4 Pin - Noise Level: 12.4dB(A) Air Flow: 55.24 CFM

Thermalright TY-140mm Silent Fan - Sound Level : 17~21dBA Airflow : 28.3~74CFM

BitFenix Spectre 140mm Fan - Black - Noise (dB-A): 18 Air Flow (CFM): 60

If noise is not a priority I would look at the highest air flow.

The Thermalright has high air flow and low noise. Also has 12cm mounting holes - allows installation on the 12 cm dimension, so they might be able to be used as your 120mm fans.

Stick another 140 in the top and have both as exhaust, a 120 rear as exhaust and a 140 front as intake ... you could also have 1 or 2 120's on the bottom as intakes too.

As for your temps with that cooler, I'd be inclined to check and reseat it, you shouldn't be getting high temps at all unless you have your PC in a cupboard and close the door, that cooler is one (if not the) best around.

Yeah for some reason I could never get the sweet spot when putting TIM on. I might try experimenting with applying tim on the CPU.

Hopefully that'll work for you. Not sure on what TIM you use, I've always used AS5 on my builds and always used the 'thin line' method, but after getting sent some IC Diamond 24 I used the 5mm blob method 'as recommended' in the centre of the CPU and every-thing's fine temp wise.

Honestly, with that case and your cooler, you should have a nice cool system.
