Catching up on Half-Life

I too have never completed them. I have owned half life 2 for years, I got a few hours in and gave up. For some reason it clearly never gripped me! (was addicted to football manager at the time!)

I played half life 1 when it came out and really liked it, but never completed it ( i possibly never owned it- dont recall).I bought it on steam recently, and do intend to try and complete them all, just because they are part of gaming history.
 
Blue shift was fun, so was OPFOR, I;d try them out.

On another hand, Half Life 1 is the greatest, most revolutionary game ever made and will stay my top 1 for ever.

Too bad valve is focusing on bad games instead of actually releasing some more HL juice.

but seriously i dont like games like that. Crysis 1 was the same it just frustrates me endlessly wondering around.

Yeah, I think they said a while back that since they've released several great games, they're going to go through a period of releasing piles of crap to balance things out. Boy did they keep to their word, as L4D1 & 2 and Portal 2 are utter garbage!

episodic content is good it mean we can bring out an episode every 6 months or so..... how many years later are we? yes valve have been focusing on stuff they shouldnt have
 
I think HL1 won me over originally because of the leet AI. The first time you encountered the military was just so good; playing on hard difficulty especially.

I think it really helped working at Game at the time with a mate who was one of these guys who ruled at explaining how good certain scenes were to customers.
The whole "HL done in 3 minutes" kind of saddens me really as it really is not about how quickly you can complete the game. What is fun is about..
Actually cant be bothered to continue this random rant really.

But HL is really very good but fear a little too dated for a chap to start from scratch and enjoy.

Maybe best and wait for Black Mesa Souce (lol!).
 
Might be worth playing the HL2 series through with the cinematic mod. Its a hefty download but it does make it look a hell of a lot better! :)

Whether they publicly admit the episodic 'failure' or not, I just want them to instead give us a full, proper Half-Life 3. Not expecting anything at all, but I hope we finally hear something at E3 next month.

Its not gonna happen till Episode 3 is out. They've got to finish off this story arc before they start another 1... and even then it'll probably involve half the employees from Black Mesa :p

I think it can be adapted to work. We're travelling to a completely new location (kinda like HL -> HL2), and there could be other new places along the way before we reach it, thus allowing it to be a full game with sufficiently original story. I feel Ep2's ending was quite 'significant' enough for it to be the conclusion of that arc. Only my inept opinion, of course...I'll certainly be happy with Ep3 too, even if doesn't arrive for a few more years yet.

I think they will suprise us with a new or improved Source Engine much like they did with the release of HL:2.
 
Thread has resparked my interest in the HL world. purchased the valve complete pack on steam that has everything in it. Should be a good way to spend a bank holiday monday!

Portal 2 is garbage and its overrated. Hugely.

L4D was done by other department of VALVe, not by people who made HL.
